hello,

we are heading down to ssr and bcv in october for our first stay with our dvc points... i have been reading on the posts that there has been a recent outbreaks of people breaking into safes and stealing money.. we always just taken cash with us and lock it in the safes, have had no problems in the past, but we were also staying at an outside timeshare...

so my question, if we charge things to the room do we just give them our credit card at the end of the stay and they give us a grand total? also, is the room charge also the room key?
can you use the card card anywhere in the parks?

sorry if it is a stupid question, but i have never done it before and just want to get it straight.

thanks

kristin

They will scan your credit card at check-in, give you a $1500 resort charge limit, and place a fully itemized charge bill on your door the morning of your check-out. Take a few moments to look it over, mistakes, though rare, can happen, and they are more easily corrected prior to leaving the resort.

Yes, your resort charge and room key card are the same. You can designate at check-in how many people in your party will have charging rights, so you can get some keys that will charge, and others that are only room keys. Depending on the ticket media you use, your room key may also be your park pass.

Charging to your room was the best thing ever. I went down with a friend and his family . We both where on the same resv at the yacht club , so when we charged things it went back to the same room. The best thing was i got a copy of everything we spent that night ,with the code from the card they give you which matched the one me and the wife had .. This way there was no problems. he paid when we checked out, I just paid what i spent every night so i didnt over spend..

I always prefer charging things to my card. Less to lose, less risk. By the way, I'd feel safer keeping valuables at a WDW resort than an outside timeshare...

They will start you with a $1500 hold on your credit card like others have said but if you go over the $1500 they will just repeat another hold on your card. PLEASE NOTE: Errors are not rare- they for one reason or another come in the form of duplicate charges. I would say close to 25 percent of the times I have stayed there this has happened, sometimes it is corrected by the system sometimes it is missed. One time every charge on my account was duplicated and it was missed by the system and the humans involved. So check your bill. Your room key will be your charge card, it can be used most places at WDW except the small soda and ice cream places at WDW. What I do is the night before check out I get a copy of the bill and check it. I am usually gone before they leave the bill at your door in the morning, but I would check it out the night before when there is usually no one waiting to use the front desk. You can carry money around with you as I do, I don't think there has nay muggings at WDW, just don't leave anything in your room proper, the safe is safer then under the mattress.

FYI : the limit at the moderate resorts is $1000 and $500 at the value resorts

There are a few places you can't use your card. The mobile food carts in the parks is one. The problem is they don't have electricity to run the charge machine.

We always charge to our room. It is is much easier than handling a bunch of money in a crowd.

Kristin,
what recent outbreak? There has been one report with very sketchy and questionable "facts". don't worry about it.

OT, I grew up in the outskirts of Worcester Ma. :)

Regarding not being able to use the resort charge at the small mobile food/beverage stands -- as of our last trip there (6/2-6/11) you can even do resort charge at the mobiles now. They use wireless, PDA-like "registers" to ring up sales.

The CM I talked to said they had started doing it 2-3 months ago.

thank you for all the helpful info.. looks like we will be using the room charge option this year!!

gail hayden,

what town did you grow up in? we are in oxford.
