I thought I heard once that upon checkin you are allotted certain amount on your card depending on the level of resort you are staying at. Anyone else know anything about this? We are thinking about 2 rooms at a value (first tiem for that) and wondering if my usual spending habits will be curtailed

Yes, it is determined by the type resort you stay in. When we were at BW last year, it was $1500. I think maybe it's in the $500-750 range at the values but I'm really not sure. I wouldn't worry about it though. If/when you hit the limit, you can have them resubmit another line of credit. We hit our limit while at the Polynesian on our last night!!! I didn't bother getting it increased tho. I just used my debit card for those last few charges.

I think they automatically charge your card when you hit $500. I've never actually gone that high, but I think I remember that as policy.

Value - $500.00, Mod - $1000.00 and Deluxe - $1500.00 I won't get started on how I feel about this policy though. I have other things I need to get done today.

Myst

Hmmmm...seems alittle strange - though I suspected it was so. Can I have them rechrage my card every $500 to "start new"? Very odd policy...my VISA limit (and therefore available credit)is the same no matter where I stay.

It's too bad they dont have more of a banking system set up. I'd like to simply take the money that each of us (DD and DS included) and deposit it with Disney. Then charge what we want on the room key/card and then have it come directly out of that preset amount of money we left upon checkin instead of a CC.

G00fyDad:

Each room key card has it's own ID number, and next to each charge on the room folio is the ID# of the card that made the charge. Makes it very easy to track. You can get a folio printout each day and pay your balance off in cash. You dont HAVE to charge it to your credit card.

Yes, when you hit $500 you can go the front desk, they charge your cc and then you start with a new $500. I do think its kind of strange and rude to assume people that stay at values spend less money, since we stay at values so we can spend more money at the parks!! I was a little ticked when I checked into AKL for our last few nights and found that I had a $1500 limit. It just seems like it should be the same limit at all the resorts :confused3

I think I understand the system, but could someone take the time to give a step by step of this process? So does this mean that they will automatically charge my credit card? I don't want them to do that - can I just give them our cash and work on a debit system with them.

But dont you have to put a credit card down to be able to use this feature?

I have read about people giving cash or travelers checks at check in to use for room charging. Actually I have also read about people mailing in extra spending money too. I think I am going to do this for our next trip. My DH doesn't like us to charge meals, etc but this way we can have the convenience of the room charging. Of course, I will give them a cc too in case we go over.

I have a question- This time we will be in two rooms. Can I give my kids room charging priviledges if they are in another room?

We have stayed at all 3 levels (4 if you count the villa's) I didn't know they did this...Like you we stay at value or moderate when we plan on spending more on fancy meals and stuff (or if we plan on going more than once a year :) ).

I'm not really angry about it, but it is good to know!

I just called Disney to ask this question to be sure. The CM said that I have to put down a CC to use the charging priviliges. :( I can opt to pay the balance in cash at the end of the trip but I have to have a CC to even use the feature.

No, you can put cash or travelers checks down, and whatever you do'nt use will be refunded when you check out.

Then you probably need to call Disney and tell them that.

I just called 3 other numbers and everyone of them tell me that I have to have a CC. One even laughed a t the idea. :(

As with everything else at WDW, it was set up after market research determined the best course of action or what the guests wanted, and what their spending habits were. In a great many cases at the value resorts, guests decline room charging or request a low limit--we all know that just by reading these boards! I think it's reasonable to expect that *the majority* of guests staying at a value resort are budget conscious, and will not spend as much during the course of their visit as someone staying at a deluxe, that's just common sense. Of course there are some exceptions.

Because you can start the line over again at any time by simply having them charge your card or paying your balance to zero, I don't see what the big deal is.

Then something has changed recently. Have you called the front desk of teh resort you are booked at directly?

Often the people at CRO/WDTC have NO idea on policies such as this one.
