We'd like to do a character meal. My daughter's ana to milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts & sesame. Mary Poppins is a favorite, so we were thinking 1900 Park Fare. She & my son love Mickey & Pals, so we'd be interested in one involving them (Chef Mickeys?) or we've also heard good things about the Cinderella's Castle. Any opinions?

Thanks.

In the past I have always done well with Chef mickey's and I have only done 1900 park faire for breakfast and it was handled well. Chef brought me a wonderful platter for breakfast and we have eaten at chef Mickeys many times and I have never had a problem.

Some people have reported issues with Chef mickeys.
I have not had luck with Crystal Palace in the last year. I do not care for the one chef, he seems very indifferent to any special requests. There had been a lady chef who was awesome! but I haven't seen her there in a while.

Before heading down in December, I was nervous about our Chef Mickey ADR because I had been reading plenty of mediocre reviews. Something I realized was that the good reviews I was reading and have read since are from people with allergies and the mediocre reviews are from people without them. CM seems to be a huge hit for people with allergies. It was one of our favourite meals. It was also the only place DD12 (gluten, milk, egg among her intollerances) was able to get a baked good for dessert (delicious chocolate and vanilla iced cupcakes). Most do not have an egg free baked good. The chef was wonderful and the food delicious. We also had great character interaction which was what most complain about. We also didn't do any other buffets besides Tusker House which is completely different kinds of foods and many of the complaints were that the food was the same as all the other buffets. We ate dinner though, not breakfast. I would assume they can make the same waffles that are available everywhere else but I don't know what else is available for breakfast. I would assume likely bacon and some kind of sausage or ham along with fruits but that's just a guess. I'm sure the chef could get fruit.

We've also had great experiences at 1900 Park Fare. We've done breakfast there twice (before egg was figured out). They have plenty of meat options and they can do the waffles without milk and egg (they use apple sauce and apple juice) just like every place else. If I was to do a breakfast buffet at this point (we typically don't do breakfast TS meals any more), I think it would be 1900PF because I know they have a good variety of breakfast meats so there will be some good options.

We've only had dinner in the castle, not breakfast. They do carry Enjoy Life cookies (at least they had them in December) and I would think you could ask for some even at breakfast. Last I heard they carry Van's waffles for their allergy waffles. We use these at home and enjoy them, but I have trouble with the idea of paying those kinds of prices to get the same food I pop in the toaster at home, KWIM. I understand you'll get plenty of fruit, but I don't know what else (maybe bacon?). The castle was one of the places that didn't have nearly as many options for us at dinner though the chef did try to work with what he had. He just didn't have as many different kinds of foods to work with. We chose dinner there because DD12 is a real beef lover and the prime rib on the dinner menu looked good (it really was) but there really wasn't much as far as sides go.

I know you didn't ask, but one place I was told by a chef at the restaurant would not be safe to eat because of the sesame intollerance was Tokyo Dining. Not a lot of people ask about sesame so I thought I'd mention that one.

Another option to meet Mickey is dinner at Garden Grill. They have Mickey, Pluto, Chip & Dale. We quite enjoyed this meal as well.

We did the princess breakfast in Norway at Epcot with dairy allergies and had a great experience and the princesses were wonderful.

CP was not good for us as far as they served us the wrong food... see my review in a separate post. The characters there were wonderful though and my daughter LOVES Pooh and friends.

We used to love Chef Mickey's, they were AWESOME when it came to allergies. But they changed Chef's and we did not have a good experience. We also did not care for Askerhus in Norway. The food choices were very limited and the chef was not very helpful. The buffet at DHS was one of the worst. The Chef was terrible! He had no clue about how to deal with allergies and treated me like I was a "bother" for asking to speak with him.

We have eaten at the Mary Poppins breakfast several times and enjoyed it. (They did give us milk once, but I have been told they serve the soy in the carton now). We have also eaten at the Lilo and Stitch breakfast and enjoyed it.

We ate at Chef Mickey's and it was a wonderful experience. We also ate at Garden Grill (both for dinner.) The GG was family style, which may be safer from a cross contamination stand point, however we had things at the table that the allergic people were allergic to. Between my husband and two boys the alleries include peanuts, tree nuts, fish, chicken, shellfish, coconut, beans, peas, and asst fruits and vegetables primarily in fresh form only. So we have more than a few and not everyone has the same allergy. We really try try try to be careful, but I can't feed this family without taking some risks. Completely removing the food from the environment isn't an option without reducing out diet to beef and pork (not the healthiest option ever).

Anyway, back to your question. We enjoyed both. We asked alot of questions when the chef walked us around chef mickey's buffet. There is a form that I got from the website that I faxed in (or emailed) that listed each member of the party with allergies and what their allergies were. This was not left to a reservationist to fill out (I can barely fill it out). Each restaraunt we had ADR at had this sheet and reviewed it with me along with all of our options. I had seen all menus before out trip and chose places that gave choices for out party. Have a great time.

Caveat: we went in October 2008:surfweb:

We had a great breakfast experience at Chef Mickey's for my milk, egg, and peanut allergic DS. The Chef brought him a plate with Mickey Waffles (looked the same as those on the buffet and tasted delicious), bacon, strawberries, bananas, grapes. I think he could also have had some of the cereals and the sausage. Everyone was super nice and helpful.
