I've been thinking about trying to do a character meal while I'm in DW. Do you think other parents might find this strange?

I'm going to a few character meals as a solo in June and I don't care what people think. I'm there to have a good time, meet my fave characters, and have some good food!!! :worship:

Who cares if anyone thinks you're weird...they'll have long forgotten about you after 5 minutes in the park...and face it..'they' are complete strangers...people you will probably never again set eyes on - let alone actually meet and become friends/co-workers/neighbors etc., why should their brief opinion of you matter?

LOL...can you tell my opinion is for you to go for it and have a great time! :yay:

Character meals as a solo are definitely NOT wierd. I've done several different ones, and I find Cape May Cafe to be most "solo-friendly." Maybe because of the closeness of convention facilities, but whenever I'm there solo, I notice lots of other solos there, both male and female.

Thanks for the replies. I'll see what looks good and consider making a reservation. I'll just have fun like everyone else. Thanks a lot everyone.

i had fun with the charters they pointed out the empty seats like wheres your family i replied I'm dining with me,myself and I and point at the empty chairs they laugh at that one

I'm glad it received laughs from someone. Goes to show that maybe I was just being overly sensitive. The only place where the characters pointed out empty seats like that was at Crystal Palace, and it bothered me when they did. All I could think of was "What if I were a recent widow venturing out alone for the first time? This might make me dissolve in tears." Maybe because I did dine at CP with a widow once, I thought of that. Anyhoo, glad to hear that maybe it was just my overreaction, and it really WAS funny.

I would definitely go solo and enjoy a fun meal. I bet the characters are only pointing to the chairs in case you did have others with you and wanted to get them for pictures, I don't think they mean anything bad by it.

You handled that beautifully. We all have tragedies in our families that could result in our traveling alone when we might prefer not to be so a table for people arriving alone but preferring not to be might be possible.

I wouldn't think any less of an adult who was alone at a character meal. Adults with childlike qualities are not all a bunch of weirdos and can show a great deal of maturity when it is called for. I think that I would find a grown man who was enjoying himself at a character meal charming.

I'll have to remember that reply if I get asked. I usually have some kind of quick witted response to questions, so who knows what I'd say.

Now I guess I should figure out which characters I'd like to meet and try to plan accordingly. Would a reservation for a solo be required? Any recommendations for meals that don't require pre-payment?

What are some of your favorite meal places with characters?

Thanks for the replies.

Oh, the most fun character meal we ever did was 1900 Park Fare for dinner. You get to see Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella, and they were SOOO funny. Make a comment about the other sister not being as pretty and they will soon go at it. They were the best!

you need a reservation.

think the only ones that require pre-payment are the Princess ones.

Cape May Cafe - Goofy's Beach Blast

Epcot - Land - Garden Grill - Chip & Dale Harvest Feast

I always do the Crystal Palace solo for breakfast. As far as I know I've never gotten any odd looks or comments but then again I really don't pay attention to the other people. I'm just there to enjoy myself and to see my buddy Eeyore!

Before I went to WDW last November I was thinking the same thing as you. Just so you know, I'm a 37 year old kid in a guy's body. :) After taking the advice of everyone here on the DISboards, I booked a couple of solo character meals. I had the time of my life at them!

I did 1900 Park Fare for dinner and The Cinderella Royal Table for breakfast. (Yes, I love Cinderella ;)) Never did I feel weird or did anyone look at me funny while I was at the meals. Most of the time, the Parents are busy with their children so they hardly notice anyone else. Plus as a solo you get some really fun and interesting interactions with the characters. At 1900, Lady Tremaine asked me if I was looking for a wife as she had 2 very suitable daughters. According to her I was lucky, her bad step-daughter was already taken.

Overall it was extremely enjoyable for me to dine solo at the character meals and I highly recommend doing it.

I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself. That's what I always say-people are too busy to notice you. I love Lady Tremaine's response. What a hoot!

I've done five solo trips (adult female) and almost always include at least one character meal. I've never been the slightest bit uncomfortable.

I am going in June for my first time my 1st character breakfast and my 1st wdw trip u know what walt says once you hit wdw you are no longer an adult you are as old ad you feel I am going to 5 cb so go have fun!!!

Well, I'm back, and unfortunately didn't make it to a Character breakfast. :sad2:

Of course I didn't really try too hard with all the stuff I ended up having planned. I'm going back in December, maybe next trip I'll look into a Character meal. Who knows?
