Character Call

I am posting this because I think I have seen others ask about this. We wanted to surprise our kids for their cruise (we leave on Thursday to drive to PC for the Dream sailing August 17). We thought the character call would be a fun way to let them know about the cruise. When you set up the call, you put in the ship, sailing date, and itinerary so I assumed that the characters would actual say something about the cruise on the call!!

Today Mickey and Minnie called. I knew from DIS that it is actually a recording saying you have an important message and please push 1 so I answered and pushed 1 then hit speaker so my kids could hear. The message consisted of Micky and Minnie saying hi and telling us they were so excited to see us and meet us. It was cute, but it made no mention of actually going on a cruise at all let alone what ship we were sailing or where we were going. My kids were kind of confused actually with when they were seeing Mickey and where as it could have been the parks next year - there were no details.

We told them about the cruise after the call. It worked out kind of cute because my oldest couldn't believe we kept the surprise (he is 12) and my daughter who is 8 promptly decided Mickey had called and spoiled the surprise!! She even told her grandparents when she called them that we were planning on surprising her, but Mickey and Minnie called and spoiled it.

But if you are like us and planning on letting the character call be the way your kids find out about the cruise, be forewarned that it doesn't mention a cruise at all.

I think the character calls have changed since our character call last year for Alaska. First of all, I remember scheduling more than one character to call. Now, you can only get Mickey, Mickey::MickeyMo & Minnie::MinnieMo, or Goofy:goofy:. Second, I remember the characters last year mentioning Alaska or The Wonder in their call. Third, there were more choices for characters to call in the past. Goofy :goofy:called us last year (we really LOVED his call) and Mickey::MickeyMo called too. This year, I scheduled a call from Mickey & Minnie. Unfortunately, our cruise had to be cancelled due to medical reasons. Couldn't cancel the call. So, Mickey::MickeyMo & Minnie::MinnieMo called...and maybe it was just me, but Minnie ::MinnieMoannoyed the daylights out of me! She didn't sound like Minnie and she sounded like she was on something. Plus, it didn't mention the cruise itinerary or the ship at all, just like you said. Very disappointing...in more ways than one.

Goofy called us yesterday and mentioned the cruise. He said something like I'm so excited to sail the Caribbean. But unless I missed it he didn't mention a ship. I was thrilled with the call :). My dh and kids groaned lol. My 8 year old asked me if I enjoyed my call :)

Interesting about goofy. Maybe it's just Mickey and Minnie who don't mention the ship/cruise/destination???

OH NO!!!!!! :worried: this is exactly what i was planning to let my children know about our cruise:confused3 when i set it up the options were mickey/ mickey&minnie / goofy. it also asked date of travel and where; ie Bahamas... so i assumed it would mention the date and cruise destination!!:( now i'm really worried.... :confused3:confused3:guilty::guilty:

i had picked mickey& minnie, perhaps i should change to goofy!?

anyone else had experience of this recently; in particular people from UK?!i wonder if theres a difference with US/UK calls??:confused3

NO!!!!!!!!!! just emailed Disney to confirm character call details.....

Hello Disney Customer,

The call is a hello from Mickey and Minnie saying how excited they are that you will be coming to visit. There is no mention of cruise ship or destination.

Thank you,

support@uvox.net

how on earth will we reveal our cruise to the kids now.....:confused3:faint:

Interesting! In the past, we've done character calls from Mickey and Goofy (individually) and it clearly indicated a cruise and the destination, maybe the ship. I will say the script was nearly identical, but with a little tweak for each character's individuality. Maybe it's just the Mickey & Minnie option that's so generic?

Enjoy your cruise!

No, it's the same generic phone call with Mickey too. When I scheduled this year's call, I hit the wrong character. I thought I had corrected it, but then the confirmation said Mickey & Minnie would call. We wanted just Mickey. We contacted the help email (see PP's message for their email) and they gave me a code to switch to Mickey. We ended up with both calls (and no cruise!) as we could not cancel them for some reason.

Now, last year and in past years, our character calls were wonderful. Goofy, Mickey and Minnie all called last year for Alaska. They mentioned the itinerary and the ship. It was much more personal and we enjoyed it.

I don't think we will bother with these calls from now on.

I scheduled it but it didn't give me a day/time for them to call. It just gave me an 888 number to call. When I called it was the message after I pressed 1. Do I just have my kids call the 888 number?
