I am posting this because I think I have seen others ask about this. We wanted to surprise our kids for their cruise (we leave on Thursday to drive to PC for the Dream sailing August 17). We thought the character call would be a fun way to let them know about the cruise. When you set up the call, you put in the ship, sailing date, and itinerary so I assumed that the characters would actual say something about the cruise on the call!!
Today Mickey and Minnie called. I knew from DIS that it is actually a recording saying you have an important message and please push 1 so I answered and pushed 1 then hit speaker so my kids could hear. The message consisted of Micky and Minnie saying hi and telling us they were so excited to see us and meet us. It was cute, but it made no mention of actually going on a cruise at all let alone what ship we were sailing or where we were going. My kids were kind of confused actually with when they were seeing Mickey and where as it could have been the parks next year - there were no details.
We told them about the cruise after the call. It worked out kind of cute because my oldest couldn't believe we kept the surprise (he is 12) and my daughter who is 8 promptly decided Mickey had called and spoiled the surprise!! She even told her grandparents when she called them that we were planning on surprising her, but Mickey and Minnie called and spoiled it.
But if you are like us and planning on letting the character call be the way your kids find out about the cruise, be forewarned that it doesn't mention a cruise at all.
