Changing to split stay

Need some help, please! I'm currently booked 6 nights at one resort and want to switch to a split stay, 3 nights at each resort. I'm within the 7 months, actually just over 4 months. Oh, and part of these points were transferred in from my parents, if that matters.

When I called MS just now, they told me that first they have to book my new 3 nights using new points, then modify my original 6 nights (points go back in my account) but that in the process I could lose ALL my nights at the original resort, if someone else is currently booking or has a wait list. There is no guarantee I keep my original 3 nights. (Something about having to cancel the entire trip of 6 nights first, then try to add on the 3 nights I want.)

I'm not sure how to proceed ... we are going at a busy period for DVC (early December) and there is no availability for my original resort when I go online to check. Transportation is already booked so I have no flexibility in dates.

If this is correct, then I guess we will just stay at our original resort for all 6 nights. I was thinking/hoping I could keep my original 3 nights and just drop the 3 nights I no longer want...I didn't think they were all connected as a package. I've heard people "walking" their ressie before and didn't think they had to cancel the whole trip just to delete a day and add a day.

Any advice?

Many thanks!

Tell MS that you want to modify your existing reservation. I have never had any trouble when modifying a reservation. If the first CM that you get seems hesitant, ask for a supervisor. Just tell the CM that you are nervous about losing your reservation, and you would feel better if a supervisor modified your reservation.

After the modification, the CM can add on the nights that you want at the new resort using the same points that were just released.

This is what I thought, too, but she told me I may lose it all and I had to state out loud that I understood. Hence why I stopped everything. It just didn't sound right...I don't want to end up with only 3 nights or 0 nights...

Evidently it's the only room left...I do want it, but not at the risk of losing my other nights.

Thanks for your help...

They can modify your reservation down to 3. But, the CM is correct that between the modification and the booking of the new room, you could lose both the 3 nights at the new resort and the 3 just gave up. The do not have to cancel all 6. I modified a 4 night early December a while back and they changed it easily from 4 to 2. In my case, thou, I had the points from my other resort to book those two nights first and then canceled.

I do know they can sometimes hold rooms when they do this and sometimes they can not. Call back and speak to a supervisor and ask them if it can be done with a hold.

Good luck!

MS Advisers can't hold inventory, Team Line, Managers, and Supervisors can.

Oh, I do have enough points from my new 2013 (Dec use year) to reserve the new room first. But what happens then to my points that I used to reserve my original resort?

Sounds like I will see if they are still available tomorrow and if so, maybe just ask for a supervisor to assist me.

Thanks for this info, too! I think I will ask for a manager/supervisor to assist me as I don't want to be out of a room for those 3 night altogether. If those rooms are even still available tomorrow...
