I just got BBC America last month and I'm having so much fun watching "Changing Rooms," I've even got my DS (8) hooked on it. I can't believe some of the stuff those designers do! Today they painted the floor and walls of some poor soul's dining room PINK! Not light pink, mind you, but bright, Barbie PINK! It was sooooo awful, I felt soooooo sorry for that couple. The expression on their faces said it all.

We have our own version over here, it's called "Trading Spaces." It's actually a spin off from the british version and it can get wild too. It's the colors that the British designers use that are so different, much brighter than ours and they'll do the entire room in that particular color.

I also like seeing the different kinds of houses and building methods in use over there. They aren't nearly as small as you guys keep going about.

Fun show.

:) Wait till they get going with the MDF!

I have a couple of East coast friends who are fans of Changing Rooms, Ground Force and What Not To Wear thanks to BBC America.

I love Changing Rooms, anyone remember the one where Linda destroyed the woman's teapot collection? I don't know that I could ever let them loose in my house, especially Laurence.

I like watching this.....wouldn't let them near my house though!! :D

Steph,

What other shows do you get on BBC America? Do you find some of our regional accents hard to understand? That was one reason why EastEnders didn't get taken up by the USA - they couldn't understand the cockney accent!

Yes, Sandie, I do have trouble understanding the accents. I really have to concentrate. You can check out the schedule at:

I've got several of my neighbors hooked on BBC now. MY DH loves "Coupling."

Tiger, I agree with you about Lawrence. There's another designer who's very scary too. Can't remember her name, but she has short red hair. She's the one who did the pink dining room.

I like to watch "What Not to Wear" too. I'd hate to see what those two would have to say about my wardrobe. I have a feeling they wouldn't like my Mickey t-shirts.

btw would someone enlighten me re: MDF?

Steph

MDF is medium density fibreboard...kind of like cheap wood! (Well that's my non techy description!) It comes in different thicknesses etc

would someone enlighten me re: MDF?

Steph - it's what most of us in America outside the woodworking trades would call particleboard.

On "Trading Spaces" (the American spin-off) the carpenters hate working with MDF and are always pleased when the designers use real wood or veneered plywood.
