changing ressie using points-in-holding

I called to change a ressie to use my holding points, and was told I couldn't do that because they would have to cancel and rebook my ressie, and those dates are sold out. Ouch! Suggestions?:confused: I thought they might be able to do this by hand without cancelling, but apparently it can't be done.
 
I'd love to see a definitive answer on this. When I made some rearranging ressies, they told me I could call back at the 60 day point and reassign the ressie to the holding points. Next time I talked to a CM they said you couldn't do that. So, I'm sitting here with holding points I'm not sure what to do with.

Sorry you weren't able to use the holding points, but I think the rule is fair.

To me, it is like booking with home resort points at 11 months and then asking to substitute non-home resort points at 7 months. You can only do that if there is still availability. If not, the room goes (as it should) to the next person on the waitlist.

As you know, holding points can only be used 60 days or less ahead of arrival. If there are people on the waitlist who were trying to book prior to 60 days, it wouldn't be right to allow the substitution.

Maybe you can waitlist for some of your days (up until 31 days prior to arrival). If the waitlist comes through, I would think you would be allowed to substitute your holing points at that time.

If you could just substitute the holding points for a sold out room, that would negate the purpose of the holding account penalty. I agree with Carol, it wouldn't be fair to those on the wait list if you were able to do this.
 

I've done this before.
Just as mikesmom said.
60 days before the trip, I called and they were able to reallocate my points and use my holding points.

It almost depends on which CM you got.
The first CM said yes I could do it.
The 2nd CM said I might be able to do it.
The 3rd said depends on the computer.

So who knows, hopefully you'll get lucky.
Call 60 days prior and see what they can do.
 
They can do it if they have room availability. If there's a waitlist, then there's a problem.
 
CM are very variable in this. What they told you is the actual rules in place though I've never seen them written down. If you get any of the rooms available before the 30 day window, you can do what you are trying to, otherwise you SHOULDN"T just be able to swap them without cancelling and rebooking. I'm glad DVC is actually following the rules on this as to allow one to just swap the points wouldn't be fair to those on the wait list.
