Changing resorts mid-week: Worth the hassle?

We're still trying to figure out where we're going to stay when we go in May. Part of the time it will be just our family - Me, DH, DD4, DS2 and DD8mo. Part of the time my youngest sister and potentially one or two of my brothers arejoining us (the kids adore them, so it should be fun). We were thinking about splurging and getting a nice onsite resort for the time it is just our family, and then moving off site (have 2 adjoining rooms at HIFS reserved).

Anyone who has done this - is it worth the hassle? We really would love to stay onsite, but the thought of packing/checking out/checking in and then repacking when we're only going to be there 6 full days seems like it might be too much.

Also - while I've got your attention - anyone know if the refrigerators in HIFS have a little freezer section? Thanks!

we did a split stay in December between the ASMo and POR. It wasn't a big hassle. Everyone enjoyed it immensely!! THis past weekend I did a split between the Doubletree and POP. I think I would do the nicest hotel last (in this case the suite at the Doubletree). It was a bit of culture shock hitting the wide open energy of POP after we were used to the more quiet resort!!

One negative, was that my DD was too sick to go to a park on the transfer day and if POP hadn't been able to accomodate us with an early check in, I don't know what we would have done.

That said, we will split between HIFS and somewhere else this fall.

Have you thought about renting points from a DVC owner?

While your extended family is there you could rent a 2BR & then when they leave, you could go to a 1BR or even a studio.

2BR - sleeps 8, 2 bedrooms, 2 full baths, full kitchen, large eating/living area.

1BR - sleeps 4 & one in a pack-n-play, full size kitchen, large eating/living area

studio - sleeps 4 & one in a pack-n-play, efficiency kitchen. Very economical for your size family.

The HIFS rooms have a small fridge with a very small freezer area. It would fit a few water bottles to freeze, but not much more.

IMO, it's not a hassle to switch resorts on-site (they'll transfer your luggage), but I don't know convenient it would be to go off-site. Honestly, if you stay on-site first you will never want to leave to go off-site.
