My dear friends,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. If not, my apologies and the mods can feel free to move.

Am I correct in assuming that I can book my home resort at the 11 month mark and then, at the 7 month mark, book a different resort and cancel the original? Is this done? I normally would leave well enough alone but DP would like to stay at BLT (vs AKL, our home resort) for our big trip next June, especially since there is a good chance that might be his last June trip. Any information would be appreciated.

Assuming that there is availabilityat the BLT for your dates when you call, it's very easy to do. Ms does this a lot since many members move around at 7 months.

The veteran disboarders can correct me if I'm wrong, but there is one little "catch" you should be aware of when doing the 7-month switch: If you don't have enough points, you may have to cancel your original reservation first in order to make a new one. For example, lets say you have 160 AKV points in your account and, at the 11-month mark you make an AKV reservation using 150 points. At the 7-month mark you want to make a BLT reservation that costs 155 points. Since you only have 10 points available, MS would have to cancel your AKV reservation in order to free up the points you need for BLT. When this happens, there is a very slight chance that someone grabs the BLT space before you can book it.

Hopefully, I'm way off base about this and others will correct me.

The Member Services reps usually check the availability at the resort you are switching to and let you know if there is a lot of availability or if there is a chance that the above referenced chance might happen.

If the resort you are switching to requires more points than the first reservation, you may need to also borrow points if you don't have enough to make the new reservation.
