Changing reservations...

Of course today is the day that Member Services is closed, so I'm turning to you experts to help me figure out the best thing to do.

We have a WDW trip planned for 9/22 - 9/24 (paying cash, staying at Port Orleans - Riverside).

We have a WDW trip planned for 10/6 - 10/8 using 42 DVC points, staying at Saratoga Springs.

Our Use Year is October. We have 78 points left for the Oct 2006 Use Year.

We are not going to be able to go on our October trip. Should we just CANCEL the reservation and have those points go into holding (we'll schedule another trip to use them)? Or should we (can we?) CHANGE the reservation to our Sept. travel dates (40 pts for OKW or Saratoga Springs for a studio which is what we need)? Then we would cancel our reservation at PO-R and get our deposit back.

Is there anything else I need to consider, assuming that there would be studio availability for the Sept weekend?

Assuming a studi owould be available, yes you can change the ressie, since cancelling would put it those points into holding, but reserving for this month also meets the "holding" criteria.

As far as being able to cancel your POR cash ressie, it depends...some packages require 45 days...room only, I think, requires 5 days notice. I would call CRO first to see what the cancellationis on that ressie. If it is OK to cancel, I'd then call MS and hope a DCV ressie meeting you requirement was available, then call CRO back and cancel the cash ressie.

With an October use year, I don't think you could use the holding points for September. Unless holding points can be borrowed.

You could borrow the 2006 points you have left.

With an October use year, I don't think you could use the holding points for September. They would remain in your October 2006 use year (10/1/06 to 9/30/07). You could borrow the 2006 points you have left.

Oh, you're right, I missed the October use year part. That does through a wrench in to the works.

Thanks for the replies. We're doing "room only" with our PO-R ressie so I knew I could cancel that as long as we were more than 5 days out. And I was reading on the DVC Member site about changing ressies and that's what made me wonder if I could just change the ressie for our DVC trip - but with the crossing of Use Years, I didn't know. Guess I'll have to wait til Monday to find out for sure...

Just to follow up, here's what I had to do.

1. Check availability for a studio for Sept. (Yep, at Saratoga Springs for 40 points).
2. Cancel October trip - putting 42 points into Holding.
3. Make new reservation for Sept, borrowing 40 points from the 78 points I had left for Use Year 2006 (ending Sept 2007).
4. Remember to use the 42 points that are in Holding by booking within 60 days of travel - hopefully for some time in late January.
