Okay so my parents have heard of our little DVC plan and they want to jump in with us. Is there anything I need to worry about with my parents jumping in and us both being on a contract? We are looking at AKL now because that is my parents fav resort. (My dad actually grew up in Kenya cause his dad worked at the US embassy there, so he has so a lot of great memories in Africa.) Also we love 3 bathrooms you get in the two bedroom there too, for having 5 people (4 being adults). We are looking at 250 points for every other year stay at AKL 2 beds during Thanksgiving and trying our luck at club level but realizing it will not happen most times and use extra points for a birthday weekend for my son in Jan if we do not get club level. Thoughts? Anything I am missed.

If they are owners along with you, it now becomes part of their estate. If you have siblings, that could have an impact down the road.

We did add our adult children in 2019 to some of our contracts, and titled them as joint tenancy with right of survivorship.

Once they are owners, they will have the same rights as you will to use points, etc.

Just deed the contract in the way you want it to work. You can either do joint tenancy with right of survivorship or tenants in common. Either the contract passes to the other owners as a matter of law (no need for probate) OR you can let it go through the decedent's estate. The title company will deed it however you prefer. We asked for a change when we purchased a big family contract, and it was not a problem.

What we did was we purchased one contract and my parents purchased a matching contract with the same use year and resort. This way we can book our own rooms but if we ever want to pool our points together we can by transferring points from them to us. We do always travel together, either in 2 studios or a 2 bedroom and so far it has worked out fine.

We actually got really lucky because we came across a seller who was selling two 250 point PVB contracts with February use years...exactly what we were looking for! So we did all the negotiations for both contracts with the one seller.

If your traveling during Thanksgiving and January, you probably want a September or October UY for your contract ideally.

A 1 bedroom club level will be much easier to get, that one of the lock-off 2 bedrooms, since they are attached to a studio. The studios usually get walked most of the year.

Yep, I warned my dad that, he really loves club level there. So he wants as a just incase, but if we do not get it, we will still be able to use the extra points for birthday weekends

We liked pooling it already together to buy so our price per point will be cheaper and cheaper closing costs so we can split it.

Once you have an account with log in access and spend some time looking into club level you will see how difficult is it is get any club level room, particularly 2 BR (needs both a studio and 1BR available at the second of booking). Most days at the 11 month window there are actually no rooms available to even try to book, because the currently booked reservations extend past that date. Most folks who get those rooms use a practice called walking, they start trying to "get a reservation" days (or months) before their intended travel period, and then they shift the reservation every day(s) making sure their reservation always extends past the 11 month window. There is much debate about the ethics of this practice, but in the end, it is allowed within the rules and very broadly practiced. If you every want to get a club level room, you will likely need to look into the specifics. On the other side, if you want a 2 BR with 3 full bathrooms, then you actually do not want a club level room. You want to be over in Kidani. Good luck with ROFR. I have been lucky enough to stay in Value, Club, and in larger rooms over in Kidani. We actually loved all of them!!!! My wife and I were just in a 1BR Value and we were lucky enough to be on the side of the hall with SAV view. Those room are truly the best value in all of WDW. 19 points a night and we never had a time when there were not animals viewable from our large balcony.
