So we planned this trip forever ago with 2 families (total of 10). Now at the last minute the other family backed out. Reservation are not available at all the cool places we have them. What will happen if we show up with 5 instead of 10?

Anyone ever done this?

We have big places like CRT, Norway, CP, HDDR?

couldn't you just call the dining number and have them change your reservation number from 10 to 5?:confused3 i wouldn't think that would be a problem, and it would open a few spots for someone else...just be 100% the other half of your party really can't come.

Like the PP suggested, you should call and check into reducing the party size. If you just show up without everyone with you, CRT and HDDR will charge you for the no shows. Those would be two big bills.

I got the impression that the OP already tried to get new ADRs for 5, that's why she said the places weren't available. I would call on the phone and talk to Disney dining and see what they can do.

I think showing up with a few less people, you can get away with. From 10 to 5 is huge though. I don't know if I would risk it or not.

It seems logical that if they could seat 10, they would have no problem seating 5, but Disney dining just doesn't seem to work that way.

And you definitely want to cancel the penalty places unless you're willing to pay the per person penalty for the people that don't come.

Sadly it doesn't work quite that simply with Disney's dining system!

I can tell you from personal experience that you will be charged for the ones that require a credit card guarantee (Akershus, CRT, and HDDR). Sept '08 I was ill one morning, so sent my mom and husband on to Akershus without me. My husband told them I was ill, and all they said was 'no problem'. After we got home, I noticed the 'dining' charge on my credit card and called WDW to check on it. The CM was able to say that we showed up one person short at Akershus. I had thought that because my mom and husband were showing up, that we wouldn't be charged the no show fee. However, we were charged for me not showing up. Also this last trip (Sept 26th-Oct 4th) I ate at California Grill. As I was checking in the couple in front of me was telling the CM that two of their party would not be able to make it. I heard the CM tell them that they would seat them, but that they would be charged for the other couple that didn't show up with them. The man tried to argue about it and a manager was called, but the no show' policy was explained to them that if any of the party did not show up, the no show policy was applied for those that didn't show.

Five no charge fees at three different restaurants will get expensive for you guys and that's if they even seat you. There is a big difference going from a table for ten to a table for five.

Disney can be so hard to deal with sometimes. We called and asked to have the number reduced to 5 and I was told we would have to cancel all the reservations and remake them - if they were available and she checked at the time we were talking and none were.

It seems crazy to me that they can not work this out.

I wish it would be that simple - it looks like I have to cancel everything and hope something opens up (which it won't). We might as well drop the dining plan.

The CA Grill is a CC guarantee restaurant that charges a no-show fee?

We made one ressie that might wind up being short people. It's at 50's PTC at DHS. Will we be charged there???

The problem is that they can't just divide a table for 10 into 2 tables, so you would be taking up 5 seats that someone else could have had.

The other aspect of this is that people who can't get an ADR for their party will get an ADR for a larger group and then show up with fewer people. Sadly, it happens all the time, which is why they started charging for the entire party at the more popular restaurants.

I made some similar changes for the trip we took 2 weeks ago. I changed several ADR's from a party of 9 to a party of 4 and sometimes a party of 5. The CM I worked with just went into our ressie and changed the party size- no problem. I was able to do this at CM's, CRT, LTT, Sci-Fi, and Le Cellier. Call back and try to do it with a different CM.

Thanks I will do that. It is amazing the different experiences you can have with different cast members.

I appreciate the tip. Crossing my fingers I get the right person this time.
