Due to a change in circumstances, it would be better for us to take an earlier cruise than the one we have planned for March 20.

My question is this. We booked through Sam's Club (at a great rate) and it is paid in full. Does DCL ever allow someone to change cruise dates without penalty (exchanging cat for cat, cruise for cruise)?

You all are so helpful on these boards. Thank you :D

Well we called out Sams TA and they asked DCL about a date change. I guess the reason was not good enough, it would cost $1000 to change it. YIKES. March 20 here we come :D

It really depends. Right now you are technically into penalties.
You are between 59-30 days so you are in jeopardy of losing your deposit amount even for changing dates.

You can have your travel agent from Sam's club call Disney and try to plead a case for you, but usually you would have to have a really good reason for needing to change your dates. If it's just because it would work better for you then it's probably not going to happen. If you could become creative and think of a good reason, you will have a better chance.

Good Luck!!

Thanks, yourtravelpro. We believe it is a good reason, and hopefully DCL will also. I appreciate your help :D .

For what it's worth, here is what happened to us:

We were booked on a 7-night cruise with DCL trip protection insurance. The night before our departure, our DD got sick. We called DCL and they said we could either cancel and get a refund of all but the cost of our insurance, or postpone the cruise and just pay a date change fee. Both options would have cost us about the same amount of money, and we knew we would eventually take the cruise, so we postponed it to a later date.

We were paid in full, so they are holding the money as credit towards our postponed date. we will still have to pay a bit more because the fares are higher on the date we will be sailing than on the original date. All in all, not a bad deal.

Yes, with insurance you are covered for sickness, injury and death. But, without coverage you are at the mercy of the cruiseline.
