Inspired by the "Changes at OKW" thread ...

I you had in a say in the matter, what positive changes would you like see implimented at VWL? This could be anything from housekeeping, events, food service, entertainment, transportation, etc.

As already expressed in another thread, anyone (VWL owner or other DVC member or even non-DVC member) is welcome to comment since they may at some time consider staying there.

This could include improvements like larger rooms, closer parking, onsite restaurant, a front desk not shared with another resort, improved transportation or any other amenity that anyone could ever possibly be remotely interested in adding- whether they would ever stay there or not.

Enjoy!

Good question, Doc. I'd like to see the boat service to the Contemporary/Ft. Wilderness loop expanded to include the late dinner shows at Hoop Dee Doo Review and Polynesian Luau. We are always left to find our own way back to the WLV if we attend the late show at either.

I would change the fact that I don't own points there!!!

and

can't think of a thing, it is our favorite place.

1. Our biggest complaint is the fact that we share the boat with Ft. Wilderness. Often over-crowded and the waaaaay too much extra time it takes to get over there.

2. I don't know if anyone remembers a few years back (like at least 4 or so) at Christmas, the WL used to decorate the grounds so much more extensively than they do now. We miss that. And they used to have gingerbread houses and great Christmas entertainment. Miss that too :( .

3. Yes, I would like to see larger rooms and lower points, but I know that is not realistic. The rooms are not that small or the points that high that we don't stay there just about every time.;)

The parking, restaurant, check-in are all fine. Thanks for asking:D

-Better housekeeping.

-Grand Villas

-Seperate front desk

-Community hall with activities like they have at VB

VWL is a wonderful resort.

OKW is our home resort and I would like to bring the things we like best about OKW to VWL.

For example:

Larger villas. Although one could not expect the current villas to be made larger you would think it possible to add several OKW size buildings on the South shore of Bay Lake. Any additional buildings should have a mix of studios, one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom grand villas. I believe the addition of Grand Villas would be welcomed seeing that they seem to be in such high demand. Maybe even build free standing cabins/villas similar to the Vero Beach Cottages. Of course the theming would have to be faithful to the existing Villas.

For long stays I just don't care for the Hotel style/feel the current villas offer. Separate buildings would solve this and allowing parking at the villas (like OKW) would be an additional benefit.

Although this is in the Lodge itself, I'd like a food court similar to the Grand Floridian. Better choices of food and more place to sit.

Somehow get the parking better. I hate that parking lot and having to walk so far to the villa.

DH loves VWL, it's his favorite...............close favorite to my OKW favorite!!

We try to split stays here with OKW.....

I would love to see more children's activities like they have at OKW!!

As for parking............ya, it is far away but at least we get valet parking!!

I posted this on another thread, but it seems appropriate here also:

DBBN.
I would like to see what you suggest at VWL. It's a small resort anyway, so an expansion would work quite well I would think. Nice ideas!

What a great question. While we LOVE VWL, I'm sure it could be just bit better! :teeth:

Grand Villas

Confirmable Lake views ALL the way down the lake side (like Boardwalk views at BWV)

Extend the monorail to swing by WL (you said anything!) :)

Another poster replied about the boat service. I don't mind sharing the boat service, but the bus service sharing REALLY seems to add a lot of time onto getting anywhere. At least the boat is a straight shot, but the bus route takes forever.

I also LOVE the ide of GV at VWL. That would really be a dream come true.

I am hard pressed to figure out anything "lacking" at VWL. It's just about perfect.

I suppose it would be nice if Roaring Fork was a little bigger, or had a little more variety of food.

And we found the bus service to be very good, with the exception of DAK. For some reason, WL is the first to pick up and the last to drop off on that loop.

Since this is just a wish list thread, I won't bother to respond to other suggestions. To each their own. :)

I would ask for a landscaping project to "disguise" that darn dumpster. I sweat it out every time we plan to visit the Lodge, worrying that I will get one of those "dumpster views." I think they could plant cedars (and add animatronic critters like bunnies and squirrels?) to camouflage that whole area!

How about a beverage cart at the Villas end? It's a hike to Raoring Fork in the morning for coffee/milk.

I have to second this... get rid of that dumpster view! OR.. at the very least don't charge as many points for it.

I agree with muushka that they had more decorations for the holidays before. They always had the entrance decorated so beautifully and last year they didn't have anything at all. I wish they would decorate more also. Last year was our first time as members and we found everything to be perfect. The WL is our favorite place to be for the holidays.

yes I remember when WL was new - the decorations inside and outside - were so much more (I think part of it is now at the AKL) -

they did away with most of the shows when they did away with the Jolly Holidays - but they still have them - ask at the front desk when you arrive.

I also hate the dumpster (really service station) view - they should have planned it better - yes they are excellent with landscaping and they could definitely have improved this -

what I dislike is that the front desk always expects members to take this view - I took it once - (that is why I kept a picture and the room number) - I have been offered it several times since and I have refused - this is not a view for a dvc member (who spend a fortune on this resort not to mention the dues we are paying) - but someone who rents from them. WL front desk has a problem with this - and I really think we all need to write DVC member services and get it changed - we paid for this resort - so why is the front desk trying to give us the worst rooms!!!!!

I now it is not the fault of any of the CM's but they have definitely been told to give these rooms to DVC members....or that is how it looks to me....

DVC is never going to built big villa like at OKW - they don't need to - they can sell the little rooms. I really thought the rooms at SSR would be bigger - considering it has the same disadvantageous that OKW - not close to a theme park - so if they stuck with the smaller rooms there - well guess what - don't expect them to ever built bigger rooms.

I want a little better food at Roaring Folks - I love the hamburgers at POR - I don't see why RF can't do better. I LOVE their mugs - the best in WDW period!!!!

transportation has never been a big problem for us. the one exception is DD - but every WDW/DVC resort has a problem with DD. I might be slow - but I think WDW wants it that way - to discourage off-site guest from parking there and taking the WDW resort buses - then changing to a WDW theme park bus or ride the monrail....If they made the DD bus slow - then off-site guest would start parking in the theme park FEE lots.

Anyway I think this resort is beautiful one of the best at WDW. Glad I got an add on there!

I'm just going to add my two cents. Just my opinion. I agree to each his own, but this is just my opinion.

There used to be separate boats for ft. wilderness and wilderness lodge. Remember they used to have the orange and green flags, then they had the orange and green flag to show when they were shared during light times, then they shared all the time. I'd rather have separate boats and busses, too, but I like the bus to the ttc. It is just as good to bus to ttc and monorail to epcot as to bus to ft. wilderness and then on to epcot, to me.

I would not want separate check in desks. The reason I like wilderness lodge villas is that I like wilderness lodge. I like checking in at wilderness lodge and coming in to the main lobby. I like the resort hotel feel. Please no separate desk or valets.

I would not want to see it expanded. I do not miss grand villas. I like the resort hotel feel rather than a condo feel.

I would not want to see roaring forks expanded any more. I wasn't sure about it when they moved the arcade and expanded it, but I think it is about fine now. Roaring forks is a place to grab a quick burger or something, not to hang out at. It doesn't bother me that it isn't a big crazy food court. I like how it is. I might try to add some diversity to whispering canyon's dinner menu, with a sandwhich or two if someone in your party doesn't want a big meal. Territory lounge could really benefit from some decent beer. That would be my #1 change at wilderness lodge. Put in some good beer in wilderness lodge with the proper theme. They can go nuts on pacific northwest wine, but the only fitting beer is the redhook esb - how about a little sierra nevada at least. Stoney creek vanilla porter. A re-labeled microbrew wheat or nut brown. "wilderness lodge wheat." Etc. It really is such a shame. There are so many beers that would fit so well there.

I would also put the moose or deer or buffalo head that was in disneyland's country bear jamboree on the wall in the territory lounge, and give the bartenders a board of buttons they could push to make him say stuff.

I wish they would re-imagineer something with that dumpster view. I've never had one, but everybody talks about them. The majority of the studios that are dedicated are at the end of the hallways. So if you are staying in a studio and the lock offs are being used for two bedrooms there are good odds you would stay there.

I would make some of the studios have two beds in them like in old key west. Sometimes that is just a good configuration. Like we have an Aunt and a mother in law who will share a regular room in the wilderness lodge because it has two beds, but won't share a studio because somebody would have to sleep on the sofa. A one-bedroom wouldn't work for them either. So that configuration would work for some rooms. Maybe the ones at the end of the hall looking at the dumpsters.

One time I thought it would be nice to have a coke dispenser for mugs so you didn't have to walk all the way to roaring forks, but that would end up being a mess so it is easier just to put some cokes in your fridge and forget the mug.

I would like to see fewer bikes from ft. wilderness parked at the pool when the pool is really busy.

I would get rid of the conceirge junk on the top floor of the main lobby because it messes up the site lines in there, takes the fun out of riding the elevator to the top and walking down the stairs, and is right outside the honey moon rooms. It just wasn't designed for it in the first place.

I would like more Humphrey Bear merchandise. I would like to see a humphrey bear dvd and other properly themed dvds in the gift shop, not the same old stuff as everywhere else. Like apple dumpling gang or old yellar. Or maybe a "wilderness lodge" collection of shorts with hiawatha and humphrey bear and pecos bill etc. That would be cool.

I'd like for them to bring back the taste of the lodge tour on the days they don't have ranger stan's tour.

I'd like to see another big slide. Maybe not as tall as sab, but taller than the one there now. Like a fort lookout post. The pool isn't big enough for it, so I'd like to see another big pool. Or better yet I'd like to see river country fixed and opened. And discovery island cleaned up and opened at least for people to hang out and picnic on and let the kids play. Or a scavenger hunt or something.

I'd like to have seadoos in the marina for rent.

I don't think I want the monorail expanded over, just bus to the ttc for it. It would look junky to have the monorail by the wilderness lodge. I would like the convenience though. If they just streched it over from the contemporary I would be OK with it I guess. If they could put in some sort of steam train I'd be all for it.

I'd put bigger tvs in with vhs/dvd built in.

I like the idea of bigger televisions. The ones they have now are small.

I also like the idea of more VWL merchandise in the gift shop.
