I'm not saying that it isn't disappointing and my huband completely disagrees with me about the fairness of it, but I still don't seen how there would be any way to confirm anything about how you ended up in a particular room. There are a finite number of units available - when you add particular requests to that limited number of units the number becomes even smaller.
I can only imagine how horrible it would be to truly need a non smoking unit and have to take a smoking unit, but who is to say that the other non smoking units were legitimately filled with guests who checked in days before with the same request and those units were open at that time. I have to think that the job of room assigning would be a horrific one. There are a limited number of units/rooms/views etc.. available - and most often everyone wants the same one.
While I believe that the new policy is trying to help what was a bad situation I can only think that now everyone is going to feel its a conspiracy! And still no way to actually know why you didn't get a particular request.
