Change name on air ticket?

I have a strange question. Our trip is in final planning stages ..airfare; hotel; towncar; PS's all in order. DH's company has thrown us a curve in that there may be a world wide server upgrade that week and he might not be able to go

That issue aside...if we change tacks and I take my Mom can I just change the name on an airline ticket...if it's a non - refundable one??

In case you can't tell, I'm not a world traveler. Thanks for any help!

most airlines will let you do a name change BUT for a fee

non refundables are usually not transferrable. Check with your airline.
