Change from room ressie to package?

I apologize if this has been asked before, or if this is in the wrong place -- my searches were not productive.

Can I book a room-only ressie now, and then add MYW and DDP later prior to arrival? I would be doing this with the understanding that it then becomes a package and I would be required to pay in full since we will be less than 45 days until arrival.

We moved our trip up one week, and I am nearly in a panic trying to schedule our days and ADRs taking into account my original desire for DDP. I would like to make a room ressie just to have that done, and then upgrade to a package if, once I have everything planned, DDP makes sense.

no you can not add to a room only reservation. While the reservationist may not explain this to you exactly, what ends up happening is your room only is cancelled and your deposit refunded, then your package is booked. Tickets makes it be a package, a package must be booked in order to get DDP. Make sure your package ressie is secured before you give up your room only ressie.

You would be way better off to book a package now with 1 day base tickets and then make your upgrades later. There is a minimum days in advance that you must have changes done by but I'm not sure how many days that is.

Changes after the 45 day mark to a package incur a charge in addition to whatever package costs have changed. 50$ I think it is.

If you're adding significantly they may waive this for you.. If you're taking something away -- probably not

Just an FYI...in case this helps someone choose the right thing.

I originally requested ROOM ONLY but was booked as a package through WDTC (unknowingly). Then I called WDTC back because after some research and help from Knox about the terms, I found that I could change it to a truly room only reservation through CRO and get better terms that suit me (I can cancel up to 6 days before registration - no extra charge and I am paying for one night in advance and pay room balance upon arrival...scratching that 45 day policy stuff).

What happened when I called; The CM cancelled my "package" and re-booked me through their CRO system instead. The CM surprised me by asking if I wanted tickets, I said no at first (I didn't have them before and I was worried about creating a package issue), but she told me I could add them to my room card and could cancel them 6 days before if needed and get a full refund, however I would have to pay 100% for these up front. So I said, hey add them if I can cancel them too. Then she asked me if I wanted dining. I told her no.

Adding tickets, or dining here would not have made it a package. You just have to pay for the "extras" in advance. But, I guess if I would have had an AP discount or similar I would have had to do a "package" no matter what. I'm waiting for a discount to come out...so I may run into that before my June trip anyway if I make a change.

Confusing huh? Seems like different experiences happen for different people depending which CM you get. Another example of that is the first CM told me that all the rooms were non smoking in the entire resort but the second told me that wasn't true it was 96% non smoking. I think the best thing a person can do is read everything they can on the terms and mull over the advice posted here. It sure has helped me!!

I think I'm getting "Disney Planner Stress Syndrome" :coffee:

:yay: :cheer2:
