I've done extensive reading about GF in anticipation of our first stay there in Dec '04, and it seems like there aren't many rooms (15 out of 700....?) that have king size beds.

This will be an anniversary trip, just the two of us, and our only special requests on our ressie are non-smoking and a king size bed. What do you think our chances are since we are getting a standard GV room?

Well, to be honest, your chances are slim. Just make your request, and hope for the best. As you said, there are only about 15 of them of the 750 rooms (that's in two categories, garden & lagoon). But, there are more garden view kings than lagoon view kings. ;) I only know of 5-6 or so off hand.

There are worse fates than having a room with 2 queen beds! We were given a king room in Sago Cay on our last trip, which is what made us vow we will never again stay in one of the outer lodges of the GF! We had a garden view room, and I would have MUCH rather had a garden view or a view of other buildings than the view we had. We were on the back side of Sago, facing the monorail and the back parking lot of the main building. We kept hearing a beeping in our room, and I think that having a monorail view was just about the view least in keeping with the atmosphere of that particular resort. Inside, it's all Victorian charm and lace. Outside, beeping, construction, and a concrete monorail track. So I think I would rather have put in a request for a view of other GF buildings, than a request for a king bed! Just a thought...
Cheers!

My wife and I honeymooned at the Grand Floridian in mid May. We requested a garden dormer with king bed. We arrived at the hotel at aroud 11:30am, reitterated our preferences and waited an hour for the room. The room originally assigned to us was a garden king dormer, but the family decided to lenghten their stay. We ended up in a regular king room and then switched to a garden dormer king the following day overlooking the marina and monorail:bounce:

However, a couple that checked in a half hour after us, asked for a king bed when they checked in and were told that there was nothing available! They were told how few kings there were and put up an attitude and got queen doubles.

Bottom line, check in early (have a plan unlike us) and be pleasant. You may not get what you want on day one, but check back that night! It's slower at night and those CM's seemed to work that much harder to please us. What a great resort!!!! Have fun!

Just being at the GF will be special enough, even if we don't get a king size bed!

Thanks for all of your answers. I'm not a demanding person, so we will smile and be happy no matter what we end up with :earsgirl:

A friend of mine who works for Aetna Insurance just won a 3 day stay at GF as an outstanding service award!! Lucky girl!!!
