I am new here as we are just purchasing 200 points at SSR. We usually vacation in August and over time I would like to try other DVC resorts such as BCV and BWV. How likely is it to get reservations at your non home resort at the 7 month mark in August? Are the last two weeks of August easier to get than the the first two weeks of the month? I would appreciate any opinions from the experts/veterans out there.

Thanks, Kathy

Last 2 weeks of August are are no problem at 4 months out , much less 7 from our experience. Probably 1 month out. OKW has always been available then and BWV has been the hardest for us.

We were at OKW Aug. 22-27, and we made our ressies only about 7 months out. It looked to me like the resort had plenty of availability when we were there. I would think the Epcot resorts might be harder, but not impossible.

To the DVC veterans; Do you think that the opening of SSR will make it easier or more difficult to get reservations at non SSR DVC resorts?

IMHO it will make it a lot harder over time. SSR will be a very big resort when it is completed and therefore will bring a lot of new members into the DVC family. All of those members will be competing for rooms at the 7 month window. This will make all of the resorts, but especially the two smaller resorts (the VWL and BCV) much harder to get.

Now if your question is at the "opening" only, that's different. In the beginning, others may want to try SSR which will make rooms available at the other resorts.

We joined in mid Feb (BCV) and booked for Aug (so that is 6 months) 8/9-8/17 was no problem. 8/16 - 8/24 had a few days unavailable. It didn't really matter to us so we didn't waitlist so maybe the few days would have opened up.

This was for a studio.

Thanks to all for your help! I'll probably book at SSR in December for August, 2004 and then in February, try to add two days before or after the SSR stay at another resort, if available.

We just stayed at VWL Aug. 16-22 and had no problems. VWL is our home resort but we didn't book until March and then had to change our ressie two times due to the changing of the school schedule. We were able to get what we wanted every time. Also, the parks seemed to get a little less crowded every day. Especially the days they forecast rain, and usually were wrong, people really stayed away from the parks.

We booked in March for a week in late August in a one-bedroom at VWL last year with no trouble. However, our first choice was a one-bedroom at BWV for that time and we couldn't get that (wanted to be closer to Epcot as our guests liked that park best). All told though, I think the last two weeks are a quiet time to go and you'll be able to get a room somewhere, even if it's not your first choice -- people are either getting their kids ready to go back to school or their kids are already in school. We go almost every year at that time.
