Chances for WLV

We are hoping to book a week at the WLV from Dec 28 through Jan 3. Our home resort is VB so we have to wait for the 7 month window. What do you think of our chances? We would need a 1 bdrm and 2 studios. Would we be better off trying for SS? Oh, and one more question, what is the weather like down there at that time (I've never been in the winter) can you still use the pools?

VWL is the smallest DVC resort and very, very popular between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. FWIW, I don't think you have a very good chance of getting in there for the most popular week of the year, especially since you need 3 units. Waitlisting can be a problem when you need more than one unit and all want to stay at the same place. It wouldn't surprise me if VWL owners have already booked up most (if not all) of the available space for the week between Christmas and New Years

You would have a much better chance of getting into SSR for that week since it is the largest DVC resort. However, you may still have trouble getting the night of 12/31 for one or more of your units, so it's best to have a back up plan.

December weather is quite variable - you could run into warm or cold. The pools are heated, though. You'll need to plan for either. Bring layers, LOL. Yu might also want to check weather averages for your dates on one of the internet weather sites.

I agree with Carol. You are not going to get VWL for Christmas week at 7 months out, especially for multiple villas. Go with SSR or OKW if you can get them.

Christmas week is just one reason why you want to buy where you want to stay most. So you can reserve it at 11 months out.

I agree. I'd be very surprised if there was anything availble even now for those dates. I believe all DVC resorts are already sold out for Dec. 31. At least I think I remember reading that here sometime in the recent past.
