Challenge: Sept on a single tank of gas?

Wish I could but we drive about 50k mi a year so not happening here. We fill both cars every 4 days or so.

I wish I could do this but with delivering newspapers everyday, kids activites and work, we fill up at least 1 time per week.

I wish I could join in but living in a rural area with no public transportation I can't. I wouldn't be able to get to one of my jobs and the kids would be stranded at their after school activities and sporting events.

I filled my car up on 7/11, and then on 8/22.

I won't have to fill it up again until October.

Wow, my main car has a 10 or 11 gallon tank and I can go up to 3 days without gas. I don't know what I'd do if I only visited the pump once a month...besides forgetting which side the gas tank is on. I do run tons of errands and I really never plan my trips out. But still I don't think I could get it down by much.

I bet I can do it, I only got gas once in August. I am sure I can do the same in September.

This sounds interesting. School just started up, so there's a daily commute there (4 days a week). The weekends, we maybe drive a mile a day. But I know I do a lot of stupid errands, like getting something from the grocery store the day after I was already there.

I want to say we get about 250 miles on a full tank of gas, and the most it's been topped off at was just under 12 gallons. We usually fill it every week and a half when it's around a 1/4-1/3 of a tank.

Campus is just under 10 miles away, times two is 20, times 4 is 80 miles. 80 divided by 250, is right around 3 weeks of going to and from school.

Well the AC is broken, so there's less wasted gas now, than there was before. That's one way to stretch the tank just a bit.

Ground rule, since this question is posed to the general audience.

Exclude work driving (commuting, business trips, paper route).

I think I could do this, I should be able to. I don't work, drive a Camry and live in a city with most things I need fairly nearby. I did just realize that gas is something I've never really paid attention to!

I consider it a good week if I only have to fill up twice, so no go for me.

If I was a stay at home mom, I might be able to do this, but I still think it would be a stretch. But, since I work outside the home, there is no way this would be possible. Although, it is a totally awesome idea and I hope some people can actually do this!

I sure wish I could! Being a one car household, it is used for everything! Once a week is the standard I can do.

Impossible here. Horrible public transportation - mostly useless in fact. 10 miles each way to work, side trips to stores, etc. Nothing in this town is exaclty "close". A 30 minute drive one-way is a "quick trip" here. You get used to thinking of 15 miles as "nearby" everything is so spread out. We need at least two or three tanks per month at bare minimum.

I wish I could say I can do this for the month of Sept. However, right now I am on my 3rd week and still have 3/4 of a tank left. I will start my 4th week Sat. We leave for Disney on the 16th so I am trying to not fill up until closer to that date. DH has a company truck he uses to and from work with company paid gas :thumbsup2 and we use it on the weekends too to save on using the gas in my car. (and no this is not our company we own) DH is allowed to use the truck as it is his own.

I could do it - I work less than a mile from home, and also bank, get gas, get groceries, visit retailers, eat at restaurants, and can do other things within 5 miles from home. 15 miles gets me to one of the largest airports in the nation.

Yes indeed, I could do it.

Oh I would love the idea, but we have a business that requires driving every where and including buying propane. So no go for me.

I had to do a 55 mile trip to O'Hare airport for work which made the gas gauge dip.

But, I've been really careful and avoided "random" driving. Last night I ate what was in the house rather than do a quick trip to the grocery store for two items DH had finished off while I was out of town.

In Dallas gas was 64 cents per gallon cheaper than here in Chicagoland.

Can't. We have obligations.

I do have a budget of $250 per month for the family, which does not include vacations. DH also buys a train pass for $50/mo. So, our transportation costs are around $300/mo.

If I did frivolous driving and could cut that out I would. But our driving is 90% planned events and work.

Dawn

ugh, i was being very frugal with my gas, driving as little as possible, then DH decided we should drive to the HS football game friday night (DD13 is in the marching band). we had a great time, but these away games are going to wreck our gas budget! my car (a small SUV) gets HORRIBLE gas mileage (17mpg), so we may just have to skip a couple of away games.
