Want to join me to see if we can make it through September on a single tank of gas?

Don't really know if that is at all realistic since I've got two round trips to the airport and one into the city already on the calendar. But, I'd like to see how far into the month I can get.

Filled today and want to motivate myself to be careful about limiting "miscellaneous" trips.

Who will try with me?

Join me??

If I can manage to fill up tomorrow night for a fresh start on Thursday 9/1 I will join you but lately all i can do is two weeks and with the long weekend in there I'mnot hopeful.

I use a tank per month in the minivan. I work very close to home (15 minute commute) and the girls schools are also very close to home. I can do 1 tank with no problems if all I'm doing is going to and form work and the girls' schools.

DBF absolutely cannot do this......he works too far from home, we have to fill him up weekly.

I just filled up my gas tank. I had not done so since May. My 7 year old car has 33,000 miles on it ; no I do not have blue hair nor am I over 90. My old office (now staying at home with baby) was 3 miles away, and I would walk most of the Spring and Fall--too hot in summer too cold in winter. All of my retail/grocery shopping is within 5 miles of my house and I try and shop once a week.

I can easily take on your challenge.

I live in a rural area so I can't do this, but I do usually make it through a month on two tanks of gas in my minivan since the kids usually ride the bus to school and I try to consolidate trips as much as possible.

I would love to!! However.. only way for me to do it would be to use other cars...then that would be cheating.. I have to fill up once every week and a half just to commute for work.. not to mention I am driving up to Disney for Labor Day, then again at the end of Sept for a 4 day weekend I have then.. each trip up and back takes me a tank of gas .. plus the gas I use while up there. My family spends more on gas during the month than we do on FOOD! There are a total of 5 of us who drive.. we use more gas to commute than we would like.. but have no choice.. work, college, etc....
What I would not do to get by on just 2 tanks of gas in a month.. never mind 1!!!!:goodvibes

I usually fill up once per month. I have a car with great gas mileage and rarely have to drive more than 5 miles to do any of my errands.

My DH, however, needs to fill the tank every two days. :scared1: He drives almost 400 miles a day to get to/from work.

I'm out. My Civic gets 300 miles per tank, and one week's commute is 250. Its an admirable challenge, though. Good luck ! :thumbsup2

i live 15 miles from town, so i could never go a month on a single tank of gas, but i wish you all luck! if i manage to make it 2 weeks, it's a feat of gargantuan proportions!

I work from home so the driving that I do is pretty local. I filled up my van (it's a 33 gallon tank) on our way home from a week at the lake in WI on Aug 6th at a cheap gas station on the IL/WiI border. We drove home to a western suburb of Chicago (about 130 miles). We took DD#2 to school in Normal, IL (about 100 miles from home) on Aug 20. I still had a little under 1/2 tank but we filled up there because gas was only $3.55 compared to $3.95 at home.

I've got about 3/4 tank left so that will get us back up to the lake on Friday for the holiday weekend.

We'll fill up again at the border gas station and that should last me at least the entire month of Sept.

We fill DH's Ford Focus about 1 a week but it's only a 12 gallon tank. He drives about 30 miles round trip every day and we use that car for errands in the evening or weekend.

I wish I could but I drive 40ish miles rountd trip to and from my job. I fill up on a weekly basis. And we don't use my car on the weekends because my husband's gets better gas mileage (yay for a Yaris lol) than I do.

Wish I could!!! Sounds great.

Living in a rural area, it would cost me more $$$ not to use gas if I had to shop locally. My son needs to get to school. We could bike, but the only way to get to school is a busy 2 lane road with no sidewalks or shoulder. Also, I know the kids have Drs appts that are in other towns. I think that the majority of Americans live like we do so I hope the price of gas comes down soon.

I have to fill up about every 8-9 days. Won't work for me. Good luck to those who are trying! I'm pulling for you!

I can go 3 weeks usually, since I mostly only go to the Park & Ride, but this weekend we are taking my son up to visit his greatgrandma in NJ, so we will definitely use more than a tank this month. It won't even be close.

I might be able to get by on a tank a week, but never a tank a month. Dh takes me to work, goes home, picks me up afterwards, takes me home, then has to go to work, then he comes home and does that all over again. We drive roundtrip approx 40 miles to the Commissary twice a month and he has drill one weekend a month, those weeks take a little more.

When he was in California, I managed to go about 2 and half weeks on one tank.

Good luck to those of you trying - I wish we could. We live in a rural area, with no public transportation.

Getting my husband to work and back 5 days a week, and myself to my part time job and back on the weekends; not to mention any trips we might need to town for grocery shopping or after-school activities, sports events, etc - we easily have to fill up each car once every other week, if not every week if we are very busy. My teenager drives herself to school and back every day, but its very close, so not a lot of gas use there, the little kids ride the bus, thank heavens.

Sure! I would love to! Any suggestions on how to get 2000 miles out of one tank on a suburban :rolleyes1

Really wish I could take this challenge, but we work too far from home and run to football practice (some nights 2 different practices - 2 different locations) four times per week! Good luck with your challenge!
