I have a friend who works as a security screener at Atlanta-Hartsfield Airport. He emailed me last night and talked about how he's enjoying the new job. Here's an excerpt from his message.

Today, on the main checkpoint, I found a CHAINSAW in some dope's bag.

That's right, a CHAINSAW!!!!!???

That's all he said about it, but it's just unbelievable. You can't get by with nail clippers these days. Who thought they'd get away with a chainsaw in their carry-on.? Why even try?

Maybe he wanted to get the pilot to buzz the tower?

LOL, Alan.

This is amazing to me, I can't even imagine why someone would want to carryon a chain saw. Well, I can't come up with a good explanation, at any rate.

It's not your typical luggage item in the first place, but especially not these days.

It would have been neat to see the faces involved in that episode....or to hear the explanation. I'll be asking my friend though.

It's so ridiculous that it's funny.

Maybe the passenger forgot it was in there. That one is my favorite excuse. :teeth:

A lot of my SO's family are loggers. None of them fly, but I'm sure if they did, they'd be totin' some chainsaws around too.

Maybe they wanted to cut the meat on the in-flight meal.

I'm not a traveler; do they even have in-flight meals anymore?

I can't imagine ANYONE even before 9/11, carrying a chainsaw in their carry on!!!

Alan - some flights have "food" on them, I wouldn't call them meals!!!! ;)

Even if you needed to take your chainsaw with you for some odd reason and you didn't take the time to consider that it could be used as a weapon, who wants to lug it around the airport? I've been known to empty the change out of my purse before I go somewhere because I know that I'll be holding my purse for a while and don't want it to get too heavy. I've never actually held a chainsaw, but I'm guessing it weighs a little more than my loose change.

Exactly Kermit. I think there is more to this story...;)

I think he was looking for a job. I grew up in a pulp wooding community and everyone knows you can't have a pilot without having a cutit first.

Old joke..get it???
