CFW at 7 months

That will just make the huge commercial renters an even bigger problem than they are now. Absolutely a horrible idea. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.

It would sell points - that's the redeeming quality for DVC, and it would give non-owners (which is most people when it comes to CFW) the redeeming quality of better booking windows. I don't care about commercial renters... and neither does DVC considering their half-hearted overtures to address renting overall - but that's for another thread.
 
Off topic, but here is my chance to bring up my idea again that DVC offer perks for people that accumulate minimum numbers of points, as an incentive to buy more points. They could reduce the booking window down from 11 months for non owners once certain thresholds (e.g. own more than some arbitrary number of points) are met, subject to owners having at least one month advantage over any non owners.
As it stands, there are three DVC membership levels (MMB, DVC-Y, DVC-N) and I think things are complicated enough as it is (both for the customers and the staff).

An extra point tier would increase it to *five* levels (MMB with higher point tier, higher point tier, MMB, DVC-Y, DVC-N). My head is already spinning.

That being said, Disney loves taking people's money... but they would need to streamline what the convoluted system would consist of. This would involve simplifying the perks and using technology to make things easier to follow.

Wyndham has five---six if you count "no status at all"---and that's apart from their clubs-within-a-club (Presidential Reserve, Margaritaville, and now maybe Sports Illustrated.).

Just out of curiosity, knowing what you know now about booking, would you still have bought the same composition of points? Or how would you change it?
 
Hello all, glad I found this group, it’s a great resource! We are very interested in the CFW (family of 6 under the same roof for low points). I know there is limited data points but I’m wondering any real world experience booking the cabins at 7 months in June and July? I’m a teacher so that’s the time our crew is traveling. We want to add 150 direct to go with our SSR and CCV resale but aren’t sure if buying say Poly or AKV would allow us to safely get the Cabins in the summer. Just looking for some thoughts from the seasoned veterans in this board. Thanks!

So all your points are resale and you can't monitor cabins. Do this--

(1) Go to the "Offers & Benefits" tap on your DVC portal and select "Special Add On Offers"
(2) Select the "Add On Tool." This will open another new page.
(3) By the "Cabins" section, select: "Resort Details"
(4) Then select: "Room and Points." This will bring you to a new page with offers each room category. With the cabins, there's only one room type.
(5) Click "Check Availability." This will bring you to a new page.
(6) Next to the One Bedroom Cabin section, click "Change Search" (This is different than the "Change Search" at the top of the page.)
(7) Put in any dates you like to see availability.
(8) If your search produces a response that says "partial availability in a small font, click on the phrase "partial availability" to see what dates are open.

But with this, you can monitor anything that you can't find access to through resale points.

FYI - I've been monitoring Disneyland Hotel Villas with this. They are hammered at the seven month window harder than anything other than GCV. I've been monitoring a small number of add-on direct points, looking to see where they'd make the most sense. My opinion: DH probably makes the most sense for me.

I am not sure that the contract allows them to reduce home resort window like that and make it dependent on resale vs direct.

A home resort has to be the same for all owners, and the way the DVC resort is currently written, a resorts trading rights into it begin when the home resort ends.

Hypothetical question but do you know if home resorts can have different rules like can Riviera have for example only a 9 month home resort priority and Poly an 11 month home resort priority? And then everyone else gets access at 7 months? Of course this wouldn't happen because it would just make a giant mess but I am curious 🤔.

Also, they could technically make the home resort priority window only 1 month long correct say if home resort opened up at 11 months and then all other owners at 10 months? This would make resale owners at resale restricted resorts preseured to book at 11 months assuming there's limited inventory because otherwise people with direct points can book their inventory without being able to trade back in with a much shorter timeframe IF the resort were highly desirable and limited inventory like a BCV or BWV

Wow this is a great find for those that are resale only. I think it will be short lived though for RIV & VDH but I can see it working until 2075 for CFW!!

I don’t think the commercial renters are going straight to Disney for their points so I’m not sure what the PP was proposing would have any impact on a normal basis.
 
No but I'm sure many of them are grandfathered in so does it really matter?
Good point I was thinking about how the PP was proposing people buying new points. I wasn’t thinking about the renters sweeping up the contracts pre restrictions who would then have yet another advantage if the program was implemented.

It would have to be new resorts only because there's nothing in the Riviera contract for example that says if I own more points I get to book before everyone else. They can't change that after the fact.

Well that goes back to the point about buying straight from Disney that the commercial renters are not doing and woud not be grandfathered in…
