Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for? (comments welcome)

I am a four time SpaceCamp Florida alumni! I also worked at the day camp at Kennedy Space Center when they changed operations. I hope he had a blast. :)

Oh I didn't know they had one in Florida! He had a great time in Huntsville but said he probably wouldn't want to go back because he heard it was the same every year because he's in the oldest age range. Unfortunately he missed out on the younger levels. Maybe he'd like to try the Florida camp next year!

Sadly the Florida camp no longer exists. :( When it did, it was only for the Space Camp levels, they didn't have the Space Academy for older kids.

Does your teen want to live in an igloo? Dang that sounds cold! :cold:
I've explained to him so many times that when it's a million degrees outside the AC can't actually get the house that cold, all he's going to do is cause it to struggle. But he's ever the optimist! 🤣

Having some serious FOMO over not being at Disneyland right now so I thought I'd post about my new plan and do a training journal name change to go along with it.

I used to be a teacher, then a school librarian, now a homeschool mom, so I love "back to school" season and this is the perfect time to start my shiny new Dopey training plan, with many thanks to @DopeyBadger for keeping me on track and uninjured. The weather has turned cooler this week too so it really feels like the perfect time to start a new plan.

The new plan has me running 4 days a week right now: Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun. I will add in Fridays in October. Lots of easy miles with weekly tempo runs and new-to-me progression runs. I've got my calendars all printed out and on the fridge, and have already marked off two workouts!

I'm also signed up for a certain instagram mama's "Fit Fab Dopey" plan but just for the strength workouts, which I will feel free to skip if needed because running is my main priority. She also shares great advice about recovery and nutrition and all the things I need to hear so I think it'll be worth it and it seems like a fun community.

Hm, I was going to explain my training journal name change but I think I'll hold off and wait to see if someone knows where it came from. It seems fitting for a challenge that's a stretch goal for me.

Oh! I almost forgot. As a reward to myself for finishing my summer speed plan, I bought my first Crowned top. Everything usually sells out so fast I've never had a chance to get anything, but this latest drop still had availability the next day.

This is the back. It will definitely have to make an appearance at Princess weekend next year.

Yay! I thought about getting something for Princess, but I really need to save money and I prefer the bike shorts, and sadly they don't make as many.

LOTR - Gimli says it when the group is discussing a diversion in aid of Frodo's journey.

I've done RunFitMama's strength plans before, including for Dopey last year :) She always organizes a meetup after the last race of each race weekend, if you're interested. Might see you there!

Yay! Did you like the plan? Think it helped? I do love the community, I'll have to try to make it to the meetup.

I did, even if her plans are tough! Each workout session could take me up to 45 minutes. I have to admit I didn't do all the exercises each time, 45 minutes was a bit more than I was willing to invest 2-3 times a week... Like you, my main focus was running.

I'm so glad to hear someone else say her plans are tough! I've definitely been giving myself permission to skip parts or do fewer reps of a move.

The past couple of weeks have been busy so I'm playing catch up here. I want to get all of my running data into a spreadsheet before I have too much to enter and end up just not doing it, but I am not a spreadsheet person so this is a hurdle I haven't managed to clear yet. Maybe this week.

Things are going well for the first two weeks of my new running plan. The runs are fitting into my overall schedule just like I had hoped and it's becoming even easier as things are cooling off and I don't have to get up super early to run. I'm doing the Fit Fab Dopey strength about once a week. I'm not doing the running part of that program but I am enjoying the warm up and cool down videos for the runs because I am very bad about doing either of those things.

3 mile run in 44:28
avg pace 14:48

T+D = ? I didn’t record it so it must have been nice. I don't remember now.

Splits
1 - 14:37
2 - 14:57
3 - 14:47

Fri - off
No puppy walk because it was pouring so we went to a friend’s farm and ran around in her covered horse riding area instead. So much fun!
Did a very short leg session at the gym, tried to keep it light while still reminding my weaker side what it’s supposed to be doing.

Sat - plan: 3 easy, with hydration vest
3 miles in 51:49
avg pace 17:15
avg hr 137
hr range 109 - 160
T+D 75 + 64 (modified pace goal 17:27)
Not sore from the gym, so calling that a win, and my little foot pain went away again so the reminder worked.

Although I felt very silly putting it on for 3 miles around my neighborhood, I tried out my new hydration vest today. I realized there probably aren’t going to be that many really warm days left so if I want to see what it might feel like for a sweaty marathon I need to run in it now. Even in just 3 miles I found a couple of uncomfortable places where I will need to modify it or tape myself to prevent chafing. I’m not super thrilled about adding a layer to my core but for as long as I’ll be running I can’t think of any other way to carry all of the things I will need, so I will just have to get used to it.

Sun - plan: 5 easy
5 miles in 1:26:46
avg pace 17:20
avt hr 137
hr range 106 - 164
T+D 70 + 66 (modified pace goal 17:27)

Weekly Summary
Sept 16 - 22

How is it halfway through September already.

Mon - rest
Walked the puppy 1 mile, then took her to puppy class, then to the vet

Tues - plan: 3.5 easy
We’re in the middle of a… tropical depression? or something? Lots of rain.
I managed to get the puppy walk in between storm bands this morning but my run had to wait until after lunch. I don’t love running right after lunch.

3.5 miles in 59:23
Avg pace 16:57
T+D 70 + 70 (adjusted target pace 17:27)
Avg HR 133
HR range 103 - 164

I am trying really hard to keep my easy runs easy, but the rain started again about halfway through this run so my pace increased a bit.
Splits:
1 - 17:32
2 - 16:54
3 - 16:48
and the last half miles at 16:02

Came in drenched after this run, went into the garage to grab a towel, didn’t turn on the light, missed the first step and tweaked my ankle. RICEing and hoping for the best.

Wed - Plan: Strength
Ankle was still a little sore so I did a modified version of today’s strength plan and continued to RICE.

Thurs - Ankle is mostly better, but still a little stiff, and it’s raining again. Going to push today’s run to tomorrow but the puppy got her walk.

Fri - Plan: 4 M Tempo
4 miles in 59:57
Avg pace 14:58
T+D 66 + 66 (adjusted pace target 15:20)
AvgHR 147
HR range113 - 177
Plus 1.94 puppy miles

Splits
1 - 15:19
2 - 15:10
3 - 15:08
4 - 14:14

Ankle feels a lot better and this run went really well. It was hard but not “questioning all my life choices” hard. And look at those negative splits!

I am laughing at my past self for thinking I needed to go run in my hydration vest immediately because the hot days were over. I am nothing if not delusionally optimistic. After living here for 15 years I still get fooled by “false fall.”

Sat - Plan 3.5 Easy
3.5 miles in 1:01
Avg pace 17:27
T+D 75 + 68 (adjusted pace target 17:42)
Avg HR 129
HR range 102 - 166
Plus 2.03 puppy miles

Sun- Plan 3.5 easy
3.51 miles in 1:00
Avg pace 17:12
T+D 66 + 66 (adjusted pace target 17:27
Avg HR 123
HR Range 101 - 148
Plus 1.14 puppy miles

All the rain made for a very good mushroom week! But the puppy is getting a lot of leashed walks because I can't trust her in the back yard with all of the mushrooms growing.

Not sure if I'll remember to do this every week but I'm thinking of adding a song of the week to these summaries. This one has been my cool down song lately because it encourages me to walk slowly and it reminds me that I don't *have* to do this, I *get* to do this.
Song for the week:
