Certain kinds of stupidity really irk me

You are preaching to the choir

Inappropriate racial slurs. One man has made 2 to me today, including one about a coworker's child. He thought he was being funny. I told him what I thought about him trying to being funny.

Not to be defensive, but we don't hold an exclusive right to racist slurs and stupidity.

I imagine you can hear similiar comments anywhere in the US.

Still, I understand where you're coming from....

We hear them too, unfortunately.

I hear them in Texas too. I guess that we're kind of part of the south but then again not really. :)

Unfortunately, ignorance knows no boundaries.

I know about that kind of stupidity too. It is really terrible that people can be so ignorant.

That's true, Alan and PG, but I believe it's much worse in the south, especially where I live. People around here are still stuck in the Civil War era.

I'm sorry that someone from the South made an inappropriate comment to you, but please don't make generalizations about Southerners. Otherwise, you're being no better than the person who made those comments to you.

Some of us in the South can be nice - and no, we don't all still live in the Civil War era --:D :D :D

Imagine trying to explain them to an 11 yo that had those words directed at him from a moving pick up truck?

Nevertheless, his Mama was called that from a bus in Brooklyn, too so it's up in the North, too.

The biggest difference I find here is that they keep it amongst like minds here. I doubt the people you're talking about would say the same thing in "mixed company". I think that's a part of Southern hospitality. In NY they'd tell you to your face!
:teeth:

Move to Hampton Roads area of Virginia, Shannon. There's nice people here. :) Now, there's NO WAY you'd get me to move to Northern Virginia!

I'm not generalizing about ALL southerners though. Generalizing about all southerners would include me.;) I'm definately not in the Civil War era either.:p I live in the "good ole boy" part of the south.

It is sad that people cannot get past these types of mindsets, but I know it is not just in the South. We just get more press about our morons than most other places.

Next time, pee on his/her leg to get your point accross.

But that would be claiming ownership and I think she wants to be around him less, not more!
