I'm 38. My mom always told us from the time we were little kids, if someone tried to abduct us, get us in a car, whatever: yell, kick, scream, bite, do whatever we had to do. She also said that if they had a gun, RUN and if we still got shot, the chances of it being fatal were not good. She also told us that even if we were killed on the spot, it would be a much better death than being kidnapped and tortured before we were finally killed.
Yes, it scared the HELL out of me as a kid to hear this kind of stuff. BUT, my mother is right. MOST people are not "sure shots" and probably couldn't fatally hit you if you are running away. AND she's also right that being killed on the spot would be much better than being separated from your family, tortured, whatever.
