Ceiling fans being removed from the Poly!!!

See for me, that is too cold. My house right now is set at 75 and I'm thinking I need to go put socks on my feet are so cold.

i have fans blowing on me at 76 WITH the A/C on too. In the summer I like being on the cold side, in winter, warm. :)

Also a fellow New Jerseyan, I can say my family feels the same way! We have our ac going and some fans on with this 80 degree weather. We like it cold :)

Why does Universal manage to keep prices reasonable and Disney feel the need to gouge us?
Universal is desperate to get people to use their hotels. Disney knows that they can basically do whatever the hell they want and charge whatever the hell they want, and enough people will still pay it simply because it's Disney. The reason they do it in small steps is only to mitigate the public relations backlashes.

Except you can't eat at any of them during high season unless you have a ADR and Disney's ADR system punishes those how don't hyper-plan months in advance. No other deluxe vacation resort in North America would tell as guest that "no, you can't have lunch" even though the restaurant is half empty. (Kona Café) Or is unwilling to move a reservation by 30 minutes when the restaurant is 3/4 empty (at the Contemporary, can't remember the name)

There is no logic behind this although its interesting to see how Disney has trained its customers. I asked a server about it and she said the signatures are staffed as low as possible and management would rather turn away customers than schedule additional servers and kitchen staff.

At other resorts in the price range of what we paid at the Poly, its never a problem to eat where and when we want with reasonable (as in that morning or afternoon planning) and often reservations aren't needed at all.
Interesting. I hadn't heard that about mgt not wanting to increase staffing.

I've lived my whole life in the south. Grew up in Central Florida. To not have ceiling fans is insane. They DO keep air moving and make a room feel more comfortable. Also makes it easier for an a/c unit to keep up. I literally cannot sleep without air moving year round. It's just not optional.

No, you do NOT want to cut power to rooms and let the a/c units stay off all day. After your day of fun you will return to a hot box. It will take a long while of your a/c working HARD to get the temperature down. Who wants to hang out in a 90+ degree room for hours? I wouldn't. Plus, meds & other things that have to be kept at a moderate temperature. NOT an option.

Here's me: if I'm in a room with no ceiling fan and/or motion sensors on the a/c I'm bringing a fan. Or, I just checked Amazon Prime Now and you can get a standing oscillating fan for $35. Have it delivered to your resort. Let the fan movement keep the a/c active. ALL DAY. Or, lock the fan position and tie some fabric strips to the face so there's always something moving. Problem solved.

No one has said to have the air turned off for the whole day. However, it does not need to be down into the 60's (as many posters like it) when there is no one in the room.

Remember too that now the resorts charge for accepting packages. I don't believe it is much, but it is something to be aware of. And unless you put up the Privacy Please tag, there is no guarantee housekeeping will leave the fan on.

Same here...I need to have a cool room or I can't sleep. We bring a fan with us to have white noise and air movement. The down side of ceiling fans ( I have 4 in my house) is that they need regular cleaning due to dust accumulation.

We definitely need the room to stay in the 60s during the day or it doesn't cool down quick enough for us to be able to get to sleep at a reasonable time at night. We all sleep HOT so we like it cool in our room...anything above 65 is way too hot for us. The first thing we do when we get to our room is check to see if we can lower the thermometer to at least 65. If we can't, we call and ask maintenance override the set temp and motion sensor. We have never had an issue with this...maintenance has always managed to override both at WDW.

Not too disappointed about the fans; we never run them because all I can think about is all the dust they are flinging around (not saying they actually fling dust; I just feel like they do). However, I am still annoyed with the removal of the alarm clocks...I like to be able to see what time it is without tracking down my phone

Is that why universal keeps building more hotels?

I think very few go to the trouble of calling and having maintenance override the temp. And it is nice that they do. If they didn't have a temp set people would be cranking it down to 60 just because they could.

Looks like alarm clocks are back, based on a photo on Tikiman's FB page.

That would be great! We were at the Poly the first week of May and we didn't have one...this will be a nice change back. Thanks!

Oh wow. Well, I just looked and the photos were posted on Tikman's page on June 6. I guess they really are brand new!

For the prices people pay to stay, they should be able to adjust the temp to where they are comfortable, not where Disney tells them they should be comfortable.

I don't agree. People wouldn't just adjust to what they needed to be comfortable, they would be wasteful. They would do it just because they could when they wouldn't have it at the same temp at home.

Too many guests were taking them, and the decorative pillows, home as souvenirs.

I can't believe Disney didn't just charge them for the missing items. They have these really cool plush beach ball pillows at Paradise Pier at DLR and they actually have the price listed in the literature in the room (can't remember the price, maybe $50?) Isn't that part of the "incidentals" you leave a CC number for?
LOL

It's very easy to disconnect the sensor if they didn't have them locked. Maintenance should have the key to unlock them I would think.

Note to self: Pack bolt cutters. ;)

I have to disagree- I'm paying a small fortune to stay on property- If I want to sleep in an igloo I should be able to- Of course I wouldn't at home, but this is vacation a very expensive vacation and it's not hurting anyone else with how I want my room as soon as I get back from the parks and it's not hurting WDW bottom line- if they were worried about AC expenses they shouldn't have built the parks in FL

They offer upgrades to everything else- add an unlimited thermostat control for a low price of 99.99 for the length of your stay people would pay it

They just need a MB reader to know when you're in the room and when you're not, as opposed to a motion detector. The MB reader could keep the air running while you're sleeping instead of shutting off like the motion detector does. I've stayed places where you had to put the room key in a slot to get the air to run, so you couldn't run it while you were out of the room. While they're at it, they could be remotely programmable, so when you check in, you tell them what temp you want the room to be when you're in it, and it automatically goes right to that temp.

I have a small fan that I keep packed in my suitcase in case the hotel I'm staying in doesn't have a ceiling fan. Many hotels don't, even in Florida. It's just a little extra insurance that makes a room more comfortable.
