Cdn. at Par - July 4th????

Also phoned and got a CM that wasn't too sure about the deal. Said it couldn't be booked till May 15th and that it was , she thought on rack rate. WE have a $53/night at ASMO for Sept 15th.AP rate. but if the Allstars are going for $77 CDN at that time like a previous post said it is a deal since our dollar is so bad. With exchange I worked out our room to cost about $85. SO I will take the CDN special or if the Moderates are not that much more........oK I can see our cheap trip costing me lots of money because I can justify staying in a Deluxe if it is in CDN! In an attempt to save money I purchased a 5day hopper plus at the DIsney Store in Toronto before the prices increased(not sure if they have). but at the time I had the money saved. SO if the passes are included we will just save that one for a later trip and buy one on the special! Can't wait to hear more info. when I saw this I started thinking about doing a trip with the kids(we are going without them in Sept) but I will just hope that they will do this special again next year.

Another thing to consider is that with Disney Club, you are getting a package & therefore must pay the whole thing 45 days before arrival. I sometimes make changes (add a night, etc) until shortly before I arrive (and one year we had to leave a day early because DD was really sick & we had no problem getting the refund for the last night. When I asked about this with a DC package I was told it would be up to the individual resort).

Not that these are really big issues or that this would necessarily happen, but I like the flexibility of reservations with CRO...so it's something we'll be considering. We'll also have to see what type of passes are available. I'd rather buy regular hoppers (rather than UPHs). If the savings is huge...then that's one thing, but if it isn't, we'll probably stick with the ones we have now.

Just a thought....I'm not sure if this would work...... but........can't you book with CRO....pay your one night deposit and then check with Disney Club and change to the Cdn. at Par Deal?

I know when I booked our reservation, I wasn't a Disney Club member so I booked through CRO and sent one night deposit., but now that I am, I keep checking for deals through the Disney Club.

I'm going to call first thing Wed. am & see what the deal is. The person I spoke to at the CRO suggested I might be able to keep my existing reservation, but he wasn't sure. I guess I'll know more on Wednesday. I'll post whatever I find out in case it can help someone with their planning (unless it's on Mousesavers first).

Have a nice weekend everyone. (It's getting really windy here...looks like summer won't be arriving this weekend :( ).

Hi DisneyLisa:

We just got back and spent a fortune; we could have waited and saved probably enough money for a second trip. lol I sure hope this is an annual thing for us Canadians.

Deb.

Hi Deb,

Were you able to get a good rate for your trip? The Canadian deal is based on "rack rate" at par, so it may or may not be cheaper....depending on how great a rate you were able to get with a code.

We're now thinking about splitting our stay between a moderate & the GF. When you convert...it's a lot of money to spend on a hotel room, when you're hardly ever in it. We're thinking about POFQ & GF (5 nights each). We could do "park commando" while at POFQ & then do MK & relax at GF...any comments? Did you resort hop at all (sorry...can't remember)?

Lisa

Hi DisneyLisa:

Rack rate, yes we had a pretty good rate, cause it was moved from sept, because of 911 and not knowing what was going to happen, we were not going to put our family in a situation

. Yes a pretty good rate but in canadian dollars the first over 200 and the poly over 400. yikes. I did two deluxes cause I wanted to try out the akl, we don't get to go to wdw very often, well it has been 6 yrs.

But next time I will do what you said, we found because of the heat we were in the resort alot anyways, breaks and a couple of days we did the resort stuff, and that is what my kids wanted to do.

That is still an excellent rate for anyone wanting to go to wdw. I sure hope they keep this as an annual thing, that may convince me to renew my dc card.

Resort hopping: We had supper at port orleans, the cafeteria restaurant, and as good as we had remembered. We took the boat from the poly to mk then another to wilderness lodge and explored then to the cont and looked around. One night we drove to the boardwalk resort and explored the boardwalk area. Took a look at the swan/dolphin hotels.

Another question for you Deb,

Did you like AKL...DD said she would like to try it as well & I was thinking maybe we would do AKL & GF. It just looks so huge to me. Was it crowded? Thanks,

Lisa

I got a call from Disney in response to my letter about reduced hours & performances & was told attendance is definitely down. I got the impression that 9-11 is still the cause and I think they are offering the Canadian at pPar because we Canadians can drive to WDW (so any "fear" of flying wouldn't have to stop us from taking our WDW vacations). With such good deals we might be encouraged to drive down. She said most reservations are being made at the last minute...not well in advance as they used to be & they are hoping things will get back to normal by summer.

Anyway, just thought I'd post what I was told & my 2 cents worth as far as the Canadian at par.

This new deal is a surprise. Now I'm getting nervous that the usual winter deal won't be available when we're betting on it for our trip! We chose early January over our preferred early December partly because then we'd be sure the Buy 1, 2nd Half-price Cdn deal would be covered for that period.

And an announcement on the boards earlier that HIFS Buy 1 Get 1 night deal was being offered now for summer too. Was betting on that deal for our 2 nights reserved there in early January (as they've done last couple years).

Born worrier, I guess! Will make some people very happy though. What does one have to produce as Cdn proof of ID for these deal? I have a Cdn relative who is staying in the States right now who is planning a Disney trip this fall.

I'm sure they'll be offering the usual winter deal...they always do. As I said above, I think this Canadian at par is a special to increase attendance.

The Canadian winter special is usually buy one...get one free or buy one...get the other at half price but I'd be surprised if there wasn't some type of special. Try not to worry (I'm a worrier too so I know how you feel).

As far as proof of being Canadian...I would think a driver's license, passport or SIN...but I'm just guessing.

DisneyLisa:

We loved akl, there is so much to do there, looking around the lodge, looking at the different savannahs, the pool never seemed crowded it is huge, lots of nooks and crannies to sit out around the pool. But we are animal lovers, most of the children there seemed to really like it too. I think that would be a good split as both resorts are so different.

The view from the balcony always changing, although not much in the afternoon as the animals go in for the afternoon and they come around on the savannahs to clean up the doo doo, and do new plantings, put food in the trees for the giraffes and on the ground for the ground feeders.
I would say the animals come back out between 3 and 4, I found my fav time to watch them was at 7 a.m. while eating my muffin/coffee the animal keepers would come out and put more food out and the animals would follow them around, he was even hugging the giraffes and feeding them by hand. W e loved it there, as well as the poly. Oh I wish I was rich.

In fact we were supposed to stay three nights and we asked to stay another night before moving to the poly. I wrote a review back on I think May 5 or 6th on akl and poly. on the resorts thread.

Have fun,

Deb.

I'm not sure if this will be a better deal if it is based on rack rates. I have paid in advance for our July trip but with my other discounts it came to 850.00 Canadian for a moderate with a water view including taxes. I'm not sure even with the at par rate I could do better than that for 7 nights?

Can you buy the at par tickets separately by calling the DC club? I am a member? Just wondering here?:earsgirl:

Your rate is pretty good RuthAnne. Based on Rack Rate...a moderate would be $170.94 Canadian which would be $1196.58 for 7 nights. As I posted above, it may or may not be a better deal, depending on what type of rate you already have. I'll be calling first thing Wednesday for more info and will post what I find out.

Lisa

Thanks for your reassurances DisneyLisa. Worriers or not -- not much to do, but wait!
Disney will do what it will do. And we'll still be going! Just may need to take on another job somehow to pay for it! Talk about budget creep with these planning boards. I've learned so much about keeping the costs down, but there seems to be so much temptation to bring them back up again!

cottontail, I've been really enjoying reading your planning & your trip reports too. Thank you for posting all. Aaah AKL & Poly. To dream... Living vicariously through your posts anyway. We know for sure now that we'll have to make time to visit both these resorts.

Thanks Disneylisa!

I spoke with CRO today and the girl I spoke with was confused about this deal too! She thinks the room rates are higher than the summer saver rates. If you have an exsisting ressie you would need to modify the whole thing and take the higher room rate to get the at par tickets. So I'll be interested to see what you find out.

It looks like the calculator will need to come out to see which deal is better. She definately did not think you could keep the summer saver room rate or any other code rate and add on these passes at par.

However, she didn't know what the room rates would be with the new deal??????

Oh, the anticipation is killing me!!

Thanks CdnMom2:

It was very nice, especially because we ended doing more resort days, cause of the heat as you have read. I do not think we could afford to do it again, it was our one time 25th anniv. biggie.

Here is a few secrets about how I afforded it, I and children have been on reward programs for 3 to 4 yrs. now, every morning, point click gave us our 4, 5 day hopper pluses thru clicking for almost 2 years, then they folded.

I opened an american bank account and joined a couple of programs that you click for money searchcactus.com, netflip.com and they give very small amounts, my hubby laughs, as it takes forever, but over the years I and kids were able to click almost 800 u.s. for our meals, I just kept putting every 20 and 30 dollar check in the account. I do mine while reading the dis.

Saved all small change, when it added up we rolled it and banked it also. I cook most meals from scratch, not many restaurant meals, (still costs a fortune for groceries though, ) I have to watch what we eat due to migraines, and my cholesterol.

We drive so that has always been our justification to stay in a wdw resort, vrs the cost of flying and we would have to be offsite because of the extra money of the flights, but the southwest out of buffalo has some great rates for one to think about flying.

If we ever get to go back to wdw (we have passes left yippee,) I will stay somewhere less expensive offsite/ onsite depending on the cost, for our park touring days, then to our fav deluxe for a couple of nights to relax. I would think it will just be hubby and I.

Hi everyone. I called CRO to ask some questions about changing some of my clients ressies and I was told by the CM that the ticket deal is just 10% off of the Ultimate Park Hopper ticket. She did not seem absolutely sure however, so I will be calling back on Wed. If this is the case however, for a six night/seven day ticket, the price in Canadian would be approximately the same as the 7 day park hopper available which never expires.

Can anybody tell me, if I reserve two rooms under my name (I am a Disney Club member) are they both at the par deal? My parents will be in the other one. If I order the tickets can they get them at par?

More of the same...a lady in tonights class told me about the AT PAR deal ~ her daughter is a travel agent and she just found out about it! S
