I'm jealous! Our library has either been closed completely or curbside only for all but 7 weeks since mid-March of last year, and they just closed down again indefinitely because of the trends in our area. They are so slow to reopen when things improve that they missed the whole lull both in summer and early this year, reopening just as the trend started heading up again; in the fall they managed 3 weeks open, this time they made it 4. Even when they were open, there were no periodicals, no computers, no seating and no study spaces, but it was nice just being able to go in and browse. I miss being able to see what catches my eye, rather than having to reserve specific titles online.
I totally understand  Libraries hold so much more to a community than just books that's for sure!

I really hope things improve for your area even if just a little bit :grouphug:

Have you guys seen the SNL skit called Boomer Got Vax? It's definitely cheered me up.
My husband and I couldn't stop laughing...but probably because some of the stuff was things my early 30s and I husband could totally say "yup"..like "crashed the economy three whole times but when it comes to the vax first in line" and then the subsequent lyrics about job out of college no student loans and so much of that. SNL has some good song skits and they ain't afraid to put it all out there.

I quoted the SNL skit as the reason I knew of "stimmy" on that other thread.

Cases down massively vs last Monday, down for the 5th day in a row week over week, deaths down to their lowest # since early October. 7 day death avg is plummeting. I think we've turned corner on the blip up over the last few weeks and we'll be headed down fast. Texas and California both posting tremendously good #s the last week. Will try to provide a more detailed update later this week.

we may see a small jump next couple of
Days due to holiday , but then should start to see the trend hopefullly going back down.

I live in a large (100K+) senior community and up to a few weeks ago when looking at the number of Covid cases I was thinking these older folks were licking each other in the grocery checkout line.

But low and behold, we hit over 80% with one vaccine and over 65% fully vaccinated about 10 days ago and all the stats dropped. Maybe a handful of cases some days, none some days, and the hospital nurses must be downright lonely given the plunging Covid numbers there.

Because we have so many seniors the numbers for the 16+ population for our county are over 60% with at least one vaccine and 40% fully vaccinated. The light at the end of the tunnel is very bright here.

The vaccines will curb this monster. Just a little patience and yes, line up for that vaccine.

Those breakthrough cases and deaths are very unfortunate even if it has been a known fact that these vaccines are not 100% effective and breakthrough cases were going to happen.
Wonder how many of those affected thought they were completely immune because they were vaccinated. (Don’t mean it in any negative way. Just wondering how their habits may have changed after the vaccine).

Yeah, I think we all knew in the abstract that they would happen, but seeing the number start ticking already is just one more thing to add to the feeling that life is never going to be normal again. If we've already got hundreds of breakthrough cases, just a couple months into the vaccine effort and before any of the variants have become widespread, it seems all too possible that cases will never reach a low enough point for us to resume any semblance of pre-pandemic life. I really don't care how their habits changed, because at worst they changed in the ways the vaccine is supposed to enable - gathering without masks, eating out without fear, going somewhere with more than a handful of people - and if the vaccine doesn't protect enough people under those conditions, I don't see how large events will be able to resume.

It’s Spring Break this week for many schools across the country. Families are going out in strong numbers.

It has been spring break season for the last 3 weeks , this is the last big week for it .

but my comment was more due to less reporting and such as been noticed over other holidays.

Just saw this on the news. The FBI has said fake vaccine cards are considered a crime. What they'll do about it remains to be seen though.

When I posted on FB about getting my first dose I just posted the stickers the place gave out (similar to voting stickers). I just didn't even want to deal with trying to blank out the information or put my finger on the information of my card. Figured my point came across with the wording on the sticker of "I got my covid vaccine"

I do know my state's Attorney General joined up with 44 other states and territories (as of several days ago) to requested twitter, eBay and shopify to "monitor their platforms for ads or links selling blank of fraudulently-completed vaccination cards, to promptly take down ads or links that are selling cards and to preserve records and information about the ads and the people who were selling them."

The hospitalization and death numbers are already plummeting for older people. As more vaccines get into younger age groups, the same will happen for them. Not might. Will.

Biden just moved up the date to open vaccines for all ages so hopefully that helps. I am still waiting for my turn but it looks like many places are getting J&J vaccine. I am a little disappointed as it does not seem to be as good as the others but I don't want to wait for one of the more effective ones.

Not entirely surprising given our strict measures here and definitely too soon to celebrate too much, but it’s nice to feel good about CA again!

So happy to hear that! I was planning a trip to California before the pandemic hit. When we eventually get there I told my husband to brush up on his skills of dealing with a toddler because I will be pulling out all the stops to not have to get back on the plane to go home, lol.

We decided to go snowboarding for a few days last weekend and it was fun but was I ever missing my typical spring break (warmth and sunshine) trip =)

NYS went to 16+ this morning. I was able to get an appointment for my college son when he gets home in May. My other son and daughter-in-law are now eligible, too. It feels like a huge weight has been lifted. There are still scheduling difficulties in some areas of the state. I couldn't find anything for my son near his college, and I took a quick look and there isn't anything near my other son/daughter-in-law, but there are plenty of appointments here. Hopefully, they will find something or come for a visit.

Maybe they can ask at the school- in Ohio, DeWine has already announced they'll be doing vaccinations right on campus.

Maybe his school will start holding clinics now that students are age-eligible. My alma mater announced yesterday that they're going to be doing so in the coming weeks to give students every opportunity to get ahead of their fall vaccine mandate. Michigan just went to 16+ yesterday, so the uni didn't waste any time getting the effort started and others are expected to follow suit in the near future.

Our state went to vaccines for all over 16 at the beginning of March. By the third week of March, my 2 college kids were able to get their first doses off campus at a local distribution.

But, the campus came out with vaccines the 4th week of March and did another email push last week to remind parents that they could/should encourage their students to get their vaccines before the semester ends. They also now have J&J vaccines, too.

One of my 2 is getting his second dose today and the other will get hers on Thursday. They will be fully vaccinated by the semester end on April 30th! Woo hoo! I am so excited for all that are able to be fully vaccinated.

Fingers crossed it works out for your family very soon, too.

Also, keep looking. I originally scheduled my own 1st dose for 3/26. It worked out that I was able to call a local hospital and get my 1st dose 3 weeks earlier than that. 3/26 was actually the date that I got my second dose. Once the age levels were opened up, the availability of vaccines for my state really ramped up and became much easier to get.

My wife got her first dose today. Originally she has only wanted the J&J vaccine, but I was able to talk her into the Moderna one.

I was also able to schedule an appointment for my 17 year old daughter for tomorrow for Pfizer.

I’m surprised how easy it was to schedule the appointments. Hopefully it doesn’t mean that demand is low.
