CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

My DD has an Associates in Pastry Arts and a Bachelors in Restaurant Business Management. It’s what we’ve always thought of as a solid career especially here is Vegas. I mean, folks are always going to need to eat right? She’s been building her resume and contacts since she was 17 years old. In ‘normal’ times that would mean make a few phone calls and she’d have her pick of jobs. But right now she couldn’t score a dishwasher’s job here if she tried. My best friend, a chef in this city for thirty five years is currently spending his time playing video games and watching Netflix. There are no hospitality jobs to be had.
And all three industries that I mentioned are intertwined. It has been devastating.

I don't think you'll find a person around who isn't of the viewpoint of "when widely available". We haven't even been vaccinating for 2 months for heaven's sake. Give it time people (general statement, not aimed at you at all). But you do still have to consider people who cannot get the vaccine. You do have to create a checks and balance for situations like that. Flying? We really want to tell someone they can't fly because they can't get a vaccine?

I'm not against countries, which have already started this like Seychelles, welcoming vaccinated people without quarantines, that may potentially boost tourism although private airplanes are the easier way to get there at this point with all the testing requirements with flights. But it's just not the same when applied to the U.S. as a whole, especially now.

There would always be exceptions for those who can't get vaccine due to medical reasons. Obviously it won't happen anyways.

And sorry, quite a few people don't think restrictions should ease even when vaccine is widely available. :)

Personally I believe we should open up what we can....save jobs and move back to normal (as possible.) Otherwise it will take much longer to recover. Can't see us all lining up at the starting gate waiting for the bell.

And OMG these poor kids especially those already at a disadvantage. Talk about unfair.
Ah but we're not actually in disagreement with that. I've been very much about economy and whatnot (hopefully that part has been paid attention to) but there's a big difference in saying "hey we can have this but wear masks and keep distance" and saying "it's only open to those who have been vaccinated..if you aren't too bad so sad you don't get to do this".

Observationally the people who would be most likely to actively boost the economy are only eligible should their occupation allow for it. My mother-in-law and step-father-in-law are like "meh we're not in a hurry to get it, we'll get it but it's not pressing"..they are both eligible as it's 65+. Now as far as economy they do inject enough $$ by eating out all the time but they aren't wanting to go to concerts or travel too far. We did go to the movies once though just before New Years and I was glad there was a mask requirement and social distancing requirements.

Well I wouldn't be one of them :) I think you need to give it time afterwards because not every state is on the same pace but after a time it should just naturally revert to one's choice. The original point was fair/unfair. It would be unfair when access to vaccine is nil to many people and it will likely be time before it is actually available to all and enough time has passed for people to get their 2nd dose (with the present vaccines having 2 doses) and time for the vaccine to kick in.

Some are making the choice to stay under lockdown or heavy restrictions even after vaccinations. It is not mandated in the U.S. unless I've missed something.

Many Germans aren't happy and I don't blame them. Lots of protests over the last months.

I feel like you're starting to talk about different things now at least it seems that way. We were talking about easing of restrictions for vaccinated people. You are still supposed to adhere to mask wearing, social distancing and the like even with vaccinations right now. I know I know you are very much in favor of the mask going away but that's public health guidance at this point. Choosing to stay under lockdown is one's choice but again that's not what we were talking about anyways. Restrictions such as going to a concert and the like were mentioned.

As far as germans go, I default to the conversations going on in the covid and the rest of us thread but in terms of vaccinations germany is behind at the moment. People all over the world have way more to protest against than restrictions specifically eased for only individuals who are vaccinated so kinda moot IMO.

I don't know many people that have been vaccinated against covid-19.
If you know folks who are vaccinated and seem cautious to you, is their lifestyle truly a problem?
I live with someone with disabilities. I'm sure there are a few neighbors around who see how we manage our lives and think...how strange....or whatever. And yet we know what works for us, so we carry on just fine. 😊

Germany is working on getting
vaccines to its citizens. I'll bet they end up outpacing us.

Germany has been plagued by the same issues we have supply, arguments over the distribution and who gets it and when, arguments over if they purchased enough, issues with getting appointments, how the EU's joint venture in purchasing vaccines (leading to some unequalness), holding back for 2nd doses, etc. And that's just touching on the vaccine rollout. They are upset in that respect for the same reasons we are.

Germany is still quite far behind the U.S. at this point. But you are quite correct Germany and a few other countries are trying to speed it up. Keep in mind Pfizer's Europe plant went down to expand manufacture and thus that short-term affected production capabilities.

I sorta suspect if vaccinations in various places were super fast most of this conversation would be short-lived. But with such few opportunities for vaccination (which is not limited to the U.S.) the conversation takes on a different tone and meaning and frustrations become higher.

Maybe they will be ok with that, but more likely they will get moving. I lived overseas a lot of years. Germany seemed to always be on the lookout for ways to innovate--do better, safer, faster.
I'll stay tuned.

I agree. But they've also been entirely under the umbrella of the EU on this thing...so far. Maybe they'll break. You see where England is on that chart? What's different about them? They did it on their own.

Life isn't "fair"...never has been. Someone will always feel slighted. I do not believe the vaccination should be the sole determining factor for easing restrictions and opening up businesses. It's just another tool to help control severe infections and/or transmissions. You seem to be hung up on masks wearing. They are just one tool that can potentially help in situations where one is unable to distance. Not all masks are created equally. IMO I believe some are inefficient, often worn incorrectly and can give a false sense of security. But I wear one when required. It's my choice to be in situations that masking is a necessity and I am a rule follower.

I've seen a few articles and know a handful of older folks who are fully vaccinated. They're still very cautious. IAnd every household is different. One of my customers is a physician, and so he's fully vaccinated now. His wife is in her 40s and is healthy, so it'll be awhile for her, and so they can't really re-join society yet.

My in-laws just got dose #1. We talked with them a bit about what they will feel comfortable doing. They really just want to be able to visit with family....inside. So, we should be able to get there by early summer I hope (once DH and I get vaccinated). But they also brought up two family weddings that were re-scheduled for this summer and don't think they'd want to do that just yet (this made me secretly happy because DH and I are their ride...and we don't want to go either ;). So, I think it'll be different for everyone.

I just got back from getting my mom her second dose of Pfizer.

Has anyone read when the J&J vaccine is going to go before the FDA for approval? I haven’t been able to find anything other than “soon.”

More great news from the UK. Thursday numbers for the past month:

Jan 7: 57k
Jan 14: 49k
Jan 21: 40k
Jan 28: 29k
Today: 20k
Do you know if UK is using Sputnik or are they still in trials?
