CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

98% accurate.

The BinaxNow rapid antigen assay has a small window of dependability.
95% sensitive if symptomatic patient is tested within about a week after infection and symptom onset. After that it drops significantly. Still awaiting results of the test conducted on asymptomatic patients.

Will Disney staff be conducting the tests at the Parks?

Even the test label states that any symptomatic individual tested after the initial 7 days should be considered presumptive positive, even with a negative test, and then be verified by a molecular test.

Having said this, it’s a good step towards work in progress.

I'd like to hear from the healthcare workers who will probably be mandated to take the vaccine as soon as it rolls out. Do you feel this vaccine is safe and effective enough to make you comfortable taking it?
As a health care provider I hope I will be one of the first to get vaccinated and will be happy to do so. The lack of PPE and high risk of multiple exposures is much greater for me than the risk of the vaccine. Unfortunately, I'm afraid there will most likely not be enough vaccine initially, to vaccinate all the healthcare workers who need it.

I really hope this isn't true, our healthcare workers and military need to be the first as a National Security measure.

One would reasonably think that making sure PPE is sufficiently available is a lot easier to do than researching/developing/testing/distributing a vaccine in warp speed. But, that’s where this country is.

Keep an eye on Regeneron's antibody cocktail drug- this is what was administered to the president over the weekend. Essentially, it gives the body antibodies to fight the virus before the body has a chance to produce them on its own.

Likely to get emergency approval here and in Europe very soon.

Yeah. Just saw the CEO interview on MSNBC. Right now both FDA, AND their company approve together compassionate use cases. Found that interesting. They implied other members of govt might get this too. In a way it sickens me getting access to compassionate treatment is often political. No pun intended.

if it shows promise and low risk then just approve it!

I hear you 100% on the politician thing. It really reinforces that elite status thing. On the other hand, if it's away to get it out en masse even quicker, then so be it!

Saturday Night Live will be airing this weekend from its studio WITH A LIVE AUDIENCE.

How are they doing this? On the spot testing.

I believe I predicted this a month ago...and was wildly criticized by a few here.

Also, on CNBC this morning they were discussing the ability to re-open Disneyland using a quick test on all guests. Hmmm....
😏

And who would pay for these tests? And how much would they cost?
Better question is who will pay for the false positives? You or someone in your group tests false positive. Your vacation is over and lots of money lost. Does the manufacturer of the test that gave an inaccurate result pay? Does Disney pay? Neither will and there is no travel insurance that will pay either.

I think people will refuse to go knowing that is a possibility if that is a requirement. I know I would not spend thousands to go somewhere knowing i might be falsely not allowed once there.

Good point. I suspect if you tested positive and were asymptomatic, they would take it to the "next level" and do a different style test. But don't forget- you could test positive falsely at home or at the airport as well.

I was reading they are having some issues with the side effects. Things looked so promising a few weeks ago. I hope things are still on track.

Which is why I really don't think many should or will jump at the opportunity to take advantage of Hawaii's trusted tourist program.

Or that any program based on test results or vaccination proof are a great idea.

False positive with the screening tests in question is very insignificant, close to none. What is an absolute and a concern is the false negative with these types of screening tests. Society will bear the brunt in that case, which is worse than just one individual or family being infected in the example you give.

Yeah, I don't think rapid testing is going to be very helpful in terms of longer-distance tourism both because of the risks of false positives and of the sunk costs that would be lost to a genuine positive. But if the leaked draft guidelines for DLR reopening are accurate, that won't really matter for DLR because there's going to be a distance limit for guests anyway... so if the only guests that are going to be allowed to come are locals who are spending next to nothing (gas money and tickets, often APs they already have), the rapid testing might actually be a useful measure.

So you suspect rapid testing might be involved in DLR reopening?
