CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Regarding the allergies: my understanding is that it will be those people who suffer anaphylaxis that need to keep away from the Pfizer vaccine. My adult son is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and shelfish. All with anaphylaxis-type reactions--he carries and Epipen. I told him that, for now, he will avoid that vaccine (and probably Moderna). Not that he was up for getting it any time soon. Hopefully by the time it's his turn, they will know more. I suspect it's nothing simple like "this vaccine contains peanuts." I bet it has something to the with the MRNA type vaccination itself that causes the reaction into susceptible people.

I sure hope it does not apply to me. Like another poster, I had a pretty significant reaction to sulfa as a child. It wasn't just a rash but head to toe hives really intense. But not anaphylaxis.
Another EpiPen mom here - and we are also waiting for information and data on the next two vaccines that don't utilize the MRNA methodology. I've had a severe reaction to almonds before, so now even I am a little concerned. Again, not in line for a bit, but would rather see how the next two vaccine candidates look after yesterday's news.

The most likely cause of the allergic reaction is the lipid sphere that encapsulates the mRNA in these vaccines. These lipid spheres without the mRNA component caused reactions in animal studies. The rest of the vaccine is pretty inert, so this is likely going to be pinned down as the source.

The good news about that is, the non mRNA vaccines won't contain these lipid spheres, so they should not cause allergic reactions IF these are found to be the cause.

I just wasn't sure of their timeline. With the 3 we were all depending on, AZ, Pfizer and Moderna, they had us all being vaccinated by summer. If the other trials are not complete, it could be much later for the general public to be vaccinated.

Well, the J&J/Janssen vaccine has the highest manufacturing capability and will be able to deliver the largest amount of vaccine worldwide in 2021 (in the billions), if they get approval. This vaccine is being talked about as "the one" that will likely be distributed far and wide, due to its low cost, ease of transport/storage, and one shot dosing. They expect to get approval in January and have already begun large scale manufacturing.

That's really surprising! What is the doctors justification for delaying the vaccine, given that we know T1 diabetics are at a much higher risk of a bad case of COVID? One of my best friends is a nurse and a T1 diabetic and she's so relieved that she'll be able to have access to the vaccine in the first round.
My daughter's doctor is also a T1, practicing at a very well-respected endocrinology hospital practice - so I have no reason to doubt her judgement. She has been a virtual life-saver.

My kid was diagnosed a year ago. She had a severe diabetic reaction to a routine vaccine this summer, with a 150 point drop in blood sugar to a life threatening level. So there's that - a blood sugar level in the 20's is a much higher risk of death than Covid has shown to be for teenagers.

Also, we now have learned that T1's who are well managed, with no other co-morbidities (like obesity, heart disease, and other factors that may accompany T2 or long-term T1's) are NOT at any increased risk from Covid; especially for a teenager. Believe me, we were terrified in the beginning, and so relieved to learn and see this good news. So, she is low risk from Covid; and higher risk from a newer vaccine. I choose to trust her doctor's expertise, I think everyone should gather information from their own trusted medical professional.

Thanks for sharing. I'm sure the fact that she had a strong reaction to another vaccine is really concerning. It's great to hear that her diabetes is well managed and she's doing better!

So if she had a severe reaction to a different vaccine then that totally makes sense to hold off and wait here. I don't think that it's a newer vaccine that is the problem, just that she had a reaction to a prior vaccine means she should consult with her doctor first before getting any vaccine.

You said your wife had a reaction to sulfa and asked what then, she can't get the vaccine?
I said they mean anaphylactic reaction and stated I also have an allergy to sulfa and got a rash and that's not what they are talking about. If your wife had an anaphylactic reaction, then you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Then you made sarcastic comments for no reason. :D
And your response read like "Well, I'm allergic to sulfa too and I just get a rash, so everything is fine." You have no idea what reaction my wife gets. And my wife wasn't the point of my post anyway, just an example that you and @Mackenzie Click-Mickelson latched on to. I don't think it's any secret that over the last decade we've seen a great increase in people with nut allergies. Serious enough that kids bring epi pens to school with them, and nuts have been banned from classrooms, schools, and some airplanes. My point is IF severe allergic reactions will prevent people from getting the vaccine, that's a serious concern. At least to me. Maybe not to you.

I think we should cease conversing as you get more and more upset each time.

Hope you and yours stay healthy!

I had more to post but I'll shorten it to realistically much of the conversation seems to never be in satisfaction to what you're looking for and I just simply don't know that there is anything I can do on that end; probably best to move on to a different subject for now :)

OK, bye.

Just a reminder going forward, you can't read emotion. Why you think I'm upset is beyond me. Feel free to put me on ignore. Sorry I'm not "Mr. Sunshine" and believe everything will come up rainbows and sunshine right out of the gate.

I simply made a comment. You (and others) responded to it, and I responded to the responses. Silly me, I thought that was how message boards worked.

I'll apologize to you also I guess for not seeing everything in a positive light.

Let's agree to disagree and move on :)

We're not having Christmas on my mom's side of the family and they didn't have Thanksgiving, aside from my mom I haven't seen any of those relatives on that side since last Christmas (multiple get togethers were taken out by COVID this year) so at this rate it'll be quite a bit while longer. I understand the frustration.

Best wishes for your family's health :flower3:

Well, so far...so good on my Mom. Her symptoms (fever, chills, aches) have lessened today. My father is so far unchanged from his normal baseline (which is pretty bad). No Covid results work. She told me that she'll get word between today and Friday if she's positive, if no call...then she's negative. So, hoping for the best. I feel like we're all going through this same thing, but in different boats. Hoping for calmer waters for all of us soon.

Thanks for the kind words and responses guys. Now, back to vaccine news. 👍

Thanks for the update, continued thoughts from my way to yours on the best outcome :)

Why would anyone not have him blocked at this point?

Ignoring doesn't really work. You can still see the quoted responses and their reactions. Plus, it's too tempting to view the posts. It would only work if they cannot view your posts, but they can.

Why would anyone not have him blocked at this point?
Because some people are willing to at least read other people's viewpoints, even those they disagree with? Why else join a discussion forum?

ETA: Yea, I know he has me on ignore.

Add me to the list. My son and I both have life-threatening allergies, mine to shellfish and his to a widely used medication. I'm hoping the other two vaccines will be deemed safe for us. My husband will get the Pfizer one as soon as it's available to him.

Saw this today about the J&J vaccine. They have been able to drop their study participant number down from 60K to 40K because we're literally swimming in Covid here. Still, they're a bit of a ways out (in our current warp speed mentality anyway)....looks like they'll be ready to submit to the FDA in late January with (hopefully) EUA coming from the FDA in February. We're going to a third/fourth candidate at this point because Pfizer and Modern alone won't be able to fulfill our needs here in the U.S.
