CCV: Cabin versus Grand Villa

CCV is home and I am planning a whopper of a trip in 2023 for a party of 6-8 (so far it’s me, DH, 8 yr old DD, my mother, my sister and an aunt).

For when we’re looking to go (early September), the point chart as it sits right now* shows a minimal difference between the cabin and the GV, has anyone stayed in both and had a distinct preference for one over the other?

For me there are positives to both (trying to think of minuses for this scenario seems silly since they’re both fantastic)

I'd do a GV just for the space of the third bedroom. With the Cascade cabin, you only have two bedrooms, so that means mom and aunt might get one bedroom (sharing the bed) and you and husband get the other (person with the points get the king sized bed). That leaves sister and daughter in the living room. If I had four, maybe five and didn't mind having people sleep in the living room (my son would get it), we'd get a cabin. I think once you add guests who don't normally sleep together or who aren't comfortable with sharing a bed, the cabin is too small, just like the bungalows. I'd always prefer the cabins over the bungalows though.

Never stayed in a GV at CC, but i did love the fireplace that you can see from living room and screened porch. We used the small hot tub. Yes, think about the bedding, but if you will spend time in the cabin to enjoy the amenities, that’s the one i would pick.

In the cabin, the not main bedroom has a bed inside a cabinet, perfect for the little one, I think. We were very close to the outside grilling area. I loved the cabin!

The space of the GV is enticing especially since our entire party would each get their own bed (save for my husband and I, who would get the master king), with still more room for a few more people if others want to come...I think I’m just a little intimidated by the 12 person dining table and monster kitchen, since I know we wouldn’t really use that space to it’s full potential.

The cabin has so much character!! It would definitely be a tighter fit but so long as our party doesn’t grow any bigger I think we’d be ok. Daughter would sleep on the Murphy mattress in the master (we’d just store it in the Murphy frame during the day), aunt gets first dibs on the queen in the second bedroom, sister and mom get the two pullouts in the living room. But that leaves NO room for anyone else to join. The potential to be some distance to the main building is not a huge issue, aunt has some mobility issues but she’d have an ECV.

Don’t let the space worry you. We stayed in 3 BD GV at BWV with 6 people. The space was great and it was nice having the living room free of sleepers and there belongings. Very few GV at CC, so if you can get, that is great. Cabins usually have more availability.

We did a walk through of the cabin a couple weeks ago since it was an open house type thing they had going on. They are so nice and definitely a bucket list place for us to stay. I’m glad we walked through because our family had a trip cancelled in July that left us with a lot of points to be used by Nov. We have 5 adults and 3 kids (one is 1) and we were debating between cabin and GV. After walking through the cabin we felt like it would be a little crowded for that amount, especially since it’s really just 2 BRs. We opted for the GV even though it does feel like it will be a little huge but we’ll never have to worry about luggage and other stuff getting in the way.

our trip is coming up in 3 weeks so I’ll be happy to share my thoughts on how the GV went for us after we get back!

I am looking to Grand Villas etc. for next summer. I watched a video of the cabins, they are gorgeous but too small for a party of 5 or more adults.
My party will be 6-7 adults, my grown sons would barley fit in a bed together!
But I would love to stay in a cabin someday.

The cabins are fantastic. That said, we stayed in one with a party of five,and even that felt tight. With someone sleeping in the living room,you really do not get to utilize it for space for everyone To get together and relax. I would love to stay in the cabins again one day, but not with more than five. The grand villas are much better suited for a large group.

I want to try the cabin too, but not with the type group you have. They aren't that big. It will be tight with the mattress in the master. The living room will feel crowed. When the 8 yo wakes up there is no place to go and play if the adults wanted to sleep in a little, anyone wanting an early coffee will have to sneak around the living room occupants.

We have stayed in multiple gv's and they are great because they have space even if you never use the kitchen. People will feel more comfortable having their own real beds and more privacy of a bedroom door, especially if your trip is for a week. Maybe if you were only staying a couple nights then the cabin would be manageable.

We are thinking of getting a cabin even if it's just the two of us since they look so nice.

My vote would be for the GV, too. It will give everyone more space to unwind and have private quiet time. We've never stayed in Copper Creek's GV, but have stayed in VGF's GV when they first opened, and it was AMAZING!! My sister's family came with us, so there was 12 of us, and everyone had a great time. The cabins are beautiful, but the central room will be harder to access in the early AM if it's used as a bedroom. The private hot tub is an awesome feature, though. Good luck deciding which one to stay in!
