Yes you can. But be careful. You will love it so much you will be itching to add on points there!! We never should've walked around the resort!

Anyone can go to the boardwalk. The issue you face is if you are driving to get there. Unless you are going to valet park, in which case they may let you in the main parking area, you may be sent to the secondary parking lot which is across the street from the entrance/front gate area.

If possible, you want to wander around the Boardwalk area in the early evening when the "street" performers are out. These folks add a lot to the Boardwalk feeling.

We took the bus to a couple of different resorts (including Boardwalk) this past summer to get a feel for where we want to stay next. We did our own "tour" and then took a bus to where ever we wanted to go next. Nobody questioned us.

It's absolutely fine, all of the resorts welcome visitors, and it's perfectly OK to use Disney transportation to get there. As the PP said, do go during the evening, it's a really nice place to go for a stroll.

The problem is: When we were staying at SSR, non-guest would park at DTD then walk over to the resort and use the transportaion system to go to the parks so they do not have to pay. We had many trips where our bus stop was always full with these people. I know there have been several threads here and on other boards about this growing problem...smjj

That's a different problem though. Since buses run from DTD to BWV - they aren't using SSR buses to get there. This should have zero impact on SSR. In fact, for their plans, using an SSR bus would be MORE headache - since there isn't resort to resort transportation.

It really only has an impact on DTD parking. And since they are intending to actually use DTD for eating, its seems as fair that they take up a parking space as someone who is using it for a day of window shopping.

The boardwalk is a public place, there are no restrictions on taking a bus there. There is also parking available at the boardwalk for visiting the boardwalk, although it can get crowded.

I know, the problem is more and more non-quest are taking the buses from DTD to the resorts THEN hopping a bus to the parks. At SSR this was getting to be a big problem and there have been several threads about this growing problem here and other boards where the bus stops are clogged with non-quest using the system intended for the paying guest. I have no problem with the OP wanting to do what she has posting about, its just that many people are abusing this..smjj

So it would not be proper for you do as you are suggesting. I know years ago that each resort guest had to show proof of resort stay, but now no such requirement is made so people do use the buses this way.

Disney resorts are not restricted to guests of that resort or even guests of other Disney resorts. The only obstacle you MIGHT face will be parking. You may not get parking close to the resort, but that would also be true if you were staying there.

I have been asked to show my Key to the World card a couple of different times over the year. They have always been on very high capacity times (like Christmas/New Year's) and the buses were packed. People without their cards were asked to leave the bus.

But that has been an extremely low percentage of times that I have ever been down there. Typically, I have not been asked for a card.

In any case, the boardwalk itself is not part of the resort. Anyone is free to visit the restaurants and shops and take a bus or boat to get there.

If you look on the WDW website under Discover, then Beyond the Parks, it lists Downtown Disney, Disney's Boardwalk, Disney's Wide World of Sports, Disney's Golf Courses. It's not considered a resort.

I don't think anyone is arguing that. The point I and a couple others are trying to make is that there are people(getting to be quite a few) who are parking at DTD(free) then taking the bus from DTD to a resort. Then they are boarding a bus to one of the parks. At times this make it very hard for paying guest to board the buses. We had this problem when we stayed at SSR in the area(can't remember the name) that was closest to DTD...smjj
