heads up..... I got an email the other day stating my acct. hadn't been paid....What? I know my due date...must be spam! :rolleyes1 Got another this a.m.- decided to log in and check DH's acct for his chase visa(disney) which is never used....yep, 19.95 for an experian credit report:eek: plus a late fee for non payment!:scared1:
Instantly filed dispute as unknown charge, have to get him to call and cancel the card today. bleh- went online, and apparently it's pretty common lately for this to happen,so keep an eye on your accts. folks!:sad2:
FWIW,after many years of cc use, this is the first time this actually happened.... I have no idea how they even got his number, we haven't used that card in quite a while.......

A lot of card #s that were compromised in earlier frauds aren't used for months to years after the initial hack. At least you caught it early on! Given they got a credit report though, I'd also start monitoring the rest of your stuff and maybe put a call into Experian as well about it if that report didn't go to your address. That might also give the cops an easy clue to follow-up on.

I got a call from Chase Visa Fraud unit a few months ago. Concerning my Disney Visa account. Were these 3 last charges mine? Each was a little over $400. YIKES! I said NO, and I still had my card in my purse. Charges were made at Walmarts.

They cancelled my card, said someone must have made up a duplicate.

Later I checked the Walmart store numbers, charges were made in Florida and Kentucky or something. I am here in NJ.

Very weird and bizarre, but I was glad Chase caught it. I almost hung up the phone, but then "Fraud unit" sunk into my brain as being possibly important, and not the usual "this is Rachel, there is nothing wrong with your credit, but you can blah blah blah".

well I placed a fraud alert w/ Experian today, and it is supposed to contact all 3 so for 90 days it should prevent opening new things.....sigh....in the meanwhile I'll keep close watch on what we do have to be sure of activity....I also closed the acct. completely.....

I also had someone compromise my AMEX card and order an Experian report. That really freaked me out. Why would they order a credit report?

It would seem to be an easy way to get access to the rest of your cards, etc. Also it might show them you are a good risk, and they might able to order a card in your name for themselves...

so they know how much credit you have, to order other cards with your info and their address.

Dh and I have both had our chase accounts hacked irecently. Chase alerted us and asked if the charges were ours. His was over$1000 to sears.com. Mine was a little less than $100 to an online sporting goods store. I actually just got my replacement card today. I checked my account balance and there should be about $80 on it. The balance was about $300 so I checked the charges and there is one around $200 that I cant place. I pay the card off each month, so I keep a rough estimate of what I owe. This charges is listed as mail, Internet, ot television charge. I think it is probably another fraudulent charge that wasn't caught. Guess I'll have to file a dispute. At least I have a new card now that isn't compromised.

SO,do you think the credit report was real? which means some fool has our info, including our history? this might be bad...

My mom had the same charge on her Chase Disney card. When she talked to them, she was told it was a problem w/ the card monitoring service just putting the charges on many accounts, not that the card was hacked. They didn't even change her #, just removed the charge. When you activate your card, they offer that card monitoring service. Somehow, it ended up posting to many accounts there. But, there was no outside compromising of the account #'s & they are aware of the issue. I wouldn't worry about it too much - it was an internal computer glitch.

You are pretty lucky if it's the first time it happened.

I gave up keeping track of how many times my credit cards have been hacked. Which reminds me, I need to check mine again this week since we are just back from Orlando. Since we drove and I had to get gas twice, I usually have one fraudulent charge.

My Chase Amazon credit card was hacked 2 weeks ago. Chase declined the charge and called me. New card was issued. I have never used that card except on line to place an order at Amazon.

I used to check all my credit cards accounts on line a couple of times a month, now I am checking every 3-4 days.

sure seems like it is going to happen to everyone at some point no matter how careful we try to be.

We had a large stolen credit card issue here in the county where we live. Apparently, someone was sitting in a car in a parking lot of a local mall/movie theatre with a wireless (radio frequency) scanner. Its called RFID identity theft

You did not even have to use your card. If your card was in your wallet/pocketbook, the scanner could read off the microchip in the credit card. And they capture thousands of numbers and then sold them. I canceled my cards and got replacements. I knew my card was going to be used at some point...sure enough, 3 days after I canceled it, someone was trying to use it in Italy.

e.......
I hope you did not cut or paste or click words in the email message but instead hand typed the name of your bank or credit card company directly into your internet browser to go there directly and check the account.

Just had this happen to me on a BP Chase cc, had to close account. The Experian rep told me that someone used my cc to get a report on a Robert E (and asked if I knew anyone by this name, I don't). Since my card was compromised, they closed that account and are issuing a new number. Both Chase and Experian were very helpful, just irritating that there are so many thieves in the world that abuse the system. :headache:

yeah, turns out it was done twice on DH's account, both times for Nicole B..... no idea who that is....

I didn't read all the posts on here, only your first one, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am this happened to you. About four years ago someone hacked into our bank account and got access to our checking, 2 savings, and sons' savings account, as well as our credit card through the bank. It was a nightmare. All our accounts were closed and we had no access to our money for a few days. Things eventually got straightened out but it took awhile and was a huge headache. I was worried sick that the person who did this had access to our social security numbers, but thankfully he or she didn't. I check mine and DH's credit report yearly just to make sure that there are no loans, new cc, etc. taken out in our names. Good luck to you. I hope everything is resolved soon.

The same exact thing happened on our Chase Disney Visa that we never use. There was a charge for $19.95 from Experian on 5/27/12.:confused3 I disputed the charge and closed the account a few minutes ago.

Weird, I am in NJ too, and two weeks ago I got a call from fraud prevention that someone had tried to use my "card" three times at a Kroger in Georgia!

Maybe I have a misperception of Kroger, but I thought it was a bricks and mortar grocery store? I don't know how they used a my card there since it never left my wallet!
