CBS Report on Disney

Even though I said I wasn't going to watch it, I did anyway.

Can you believe the way they presented that piece? By the way they were pushing that lame report, you might have thought people were collapsing all over the place due to food poisoning.

8 people out of all the millions of meals served? That's unbelievable. You'd probably have better odds of winning the Lotto than getting sick at Disney.

CBS can pound sand. Their sad attempt to bash Disney/ABC failed miserably.

He wasn't a talkative sort, but I tried to strike up a conversation about what he was doing. He was doing routine, periodic testing to be sure nothing was growing in the food. I thought that was kinda neat to see him at work.

The Disney spokesperson remarked how the government, including the FDA, has come to Disney to see and learn from Disney about how they do things.

It's not a perfect world. Shellfish can be bad anywhere. Open buffets have their own risks because of what people do in line.

The View had a segment today warning about everything from touching the buttons on the ATM to eating the nuts in a bar. Hopefully, we have some resistance to germs. I'm not sure how the pioneers ever made it without antibacterial wipes. Caution is a good thing, germaphobia is not.

Ha I just watched the beginning of the Philly broadcast. They call it "their" exclusive! What a joke.

Well we watched it and were not fazed in the least. I have eaten and gotten sick at disney, but heah I eat at restraunts here and get sick too. I always bring lots of imodium for everyone. It just goes with the territory. I am surprised they did not mention how at the transplant games a whole bunch of people got really sick. They tracked down the source right away. Also was anyone there when they lost power at Epcot the day before. I questioned a cm before we ordered any food there. I was worried then. She told me as soon as it happened the health dept. etc. was there all day checking on all the restraunts. I am sure it will be another lamer broadcast tonight. I would rather sleep, but will stay up just to see it.

Another great point made by the Disney spokesperson the FDA and the health Dept both come to Disney for training and use Disney as a role model. As has been said before 8 out of 100 million are my kind of odds.

This should just illustrate that any media source whether its CBS or the New YorK Times ( given their problems with legitimate sources and other huge blunders) should be taken with a grain of salt .Use your own good common sense.

As for me I"M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!::MickeyMo

Here is a list of WDW restaurants DH and I along with my in-laws have made for our next trip:

1) Crystal Palace
2) Garden Grill
3) San Angel Inn
4) Rose & Crown
5) Liberty Tree Tavern
6) Rainforest Cafe
7) Sci-Fi Dine-in Theatre

And guess what - we are looking SOOOOOO forward to eating at every single one of those restaurants - CBS will have to do a lot better with these "exclusives" to keep us away from Disney:)

Another thing that bothers me if Disney had major problems then lots of people who ate at the questionable restaurant would be ill not just an isolated individual. When ever anyone claims food poisoning it always seems to be one person out of the hundreds who ate there that day. Well , I'm prepared to watch part 2 and try not to laugh at how awful their reporter is and how lame the whole report is, thye should be embarassed.

quote from the article:
When inspectors visited the Coral Reef Restaurant last May they found no violations related to Dr. Boyd's food-borne illness complaint but they did find another violation. Vegetables, couscous and sausage all being held at unsafe temperatures.

I'm sorry, I have never seen those items on the menu at the Coral Reef. Am I missing something? Does this "news" station know what they are talking about???

If they were attempting to hurt Disney by this report, they definitely failed. Just made everyone realize Disney is THE place to eat in my opinion! :teeth:

What a way for CBS to end their report on Epcot:

And keep in mind, half of the Disney restaurants had no violations in 2003.

I'd bet money that if inspectors checked many home kitchens few would pass. Many would have "critical violations". As for people getting sick by eating at Disney, I don't doubt there are a few. However, it's unlikely for only one person to get something like salmonella.

Every big City has even top restaurants which don't pass all points with flying colors. I view WDW as a big City in terms of it's number of restaurants and meals served. After reading the two reports I will not be scared to dine at WDW.

More people probably get sick from eating the leftovers that sat out a few hours (at critical temperature) before being consummed or after touching a contaminated surface (hand to mouth).

I watched the report via their website and sent in the following comment:

Cheap shot at Disney! Food poisoning and salmonella take far longer than most people think to make you ill. When someone is away from home and eating very meal out, it’s very hard to tell where the problem originated, but why not blame the deep pockets at Disney. I’d be much more concerned about roadside stops on my way to and from vacation at WDW than any restaurant on site. Eight complaints from 100,000,000 meals, you consider that a problem worthy of a lead-in?

I know it’s sweeps week, but still, SHAME ON YOU!
*****

I think it would be great if we all sent our comments directly to CBS, NY. here's the link:

I watched last nights final to the Disney Dining story and was surprised at the resturant that they say the rat was seen. I believe they were in Mexico, and if I remember correctly you can hardly see you own food net alone a rat at another table munching on food.

As I was getting my food, this chef guy kept coming out sticking thermometers in the various warming dishes and taking lots of food samples.

Of course, my 1st thought was, "Should I be worried over this?"

No - you should never been worried about this.

I used to work at a fast food restaurant...we had to take the temperatures of the food many many times a day. (To make sure the units we had were keeping the hot food hot, and the cold food cold and within the proper temperature ranges.)

this is a 100% normal thing...if I remember correctly, I had to take temperatures 4-5 times throughout the day.

Anyone have the link for last nights broadcast? I missed it!
I checked my local Philly CBS station and they only have part 1 linked. Part 2 may go up tommorrow on their web site. I'll post it if it does.

8 out 100 million? Really reaching!!! I worked in the Bar service field, and let me tell ya, just in the Philadelphia area I have seen some BAD things in Kitchens!!! Once again CBS is trying to make news and not reporting it .

I love how they put that list at the bottom...

These places had NO vilolations.

And maybe i'm just weird, but whose home is climate controlled enough to make sure every bit of food is "held at the right temperature"

I've never gotten sick at Disneyworld, and I have a bad stomach. I tend to get sick everytime I eat...

Unbelievable.

I still don't get why storing the lamb above the chicken is bad either. I store hamburger above frozen chicken patties in my freezer...

None of these so called violations struck me as good reasons to not eat in these places, or to even be really ocncerned.
