Budget question for those who have gone to Cayman Islands or Tahiti. Trip for 4 females out of Chicago maybe 5 nites. Best site to find a package deal, and is a package deal best? Would June be a decent month to visit? Is it cheaper to stick 4 in a room, any timeshares suggestions. They want beach, hiking, snokling. I know I could help them look for hours on the internet, but my DIS friends are normally way faster. TIA

I don't have any answers for you but PLEASE let me go with you and be the 5th girl!!! I've always wanted to go to Tahiti and have not made it yet.
So I guess my choice would be there.

PS. Pm me if you'll let me go:rotfl:

I would love to go to Tahiti. I would imagine the airfare is pretty expensive. I've been to the Cayman islands a few times and think it is a great place. It is a little expensive (food wise).

I'd say go to Cayman. When we went to Tahiti (Moorea & Bora Bora), it was like 99% couples. Loads of people on their honeymoons (actually, it was ours too!) It was extremely expensive, but it was a once in a lifetime trip for us.

Seriously neither trip is budget. Tahiti's airfare is very expensive and it will take a whole day to get there. For 5 nights, I wouldn't even bother.

Grand Cayman may be a little cheaper. There are no all-inclusives there so you would need to buy every meal out. There are "Americanized" places to eat there but no $1 menu or $5 foot longs there.

If I had to pick one , I would definetly go with Grand Cayman.

We love Grand Cayman! We have been there for 3 land vacations, and stopped there several times on cruises. You will not find better beaches or snorkeling anywhere. But hiking, no. It is a flat, scrubby island, not really that scenic like a mountainous island would be. But you will have plenty to do with the gorgeous beaches and beautiful water.

I agree - went to the same 2 islands for our honeymoon as well - beautiful, but boring! No nightlife and a very long expensive flight. Not ideal for a girls trip IMO

June is a horrendous time to go the Grand Cayman - hurricanes, rain and icky weather.

And both islands, while nice, are "couples retreats." You want a place with more activities and life, go to a large Caribbean city like San Juan or Nassau.

We went on a land vacation to Grand Cayman a few years ago in early June and had a great time! It was early enough in the month that hurricane season had not gotten into full gear yet. It was hot, but not horribly hot. It's considered off season so the rates are better. There is even some sort of promo in June (I can't remember the name off-hand, I think it's something like Sun Sunsplash (?)) and for a family of 3 we were able to fly direct from NC to Grand Cayman with 6 nights in a condo on the east end of the island for about $2500. There are great hotels on Seven Mile Beach, but you can rent gorgeous homes or condos on other parts of the island as well if you prefer that. We did end up renting a car due to our distance from Georgetown (about $400 for a convertible), but we liked being a little bit away from the crowds. We visited the downtown area on non-cruise ship days and it was great! Just be prepared to pay A LOT of money for food...it's a bit of a shocker! Also, if you go be sure to visit Pure Art which is a local art gallery. It's a wonderful place to find a real Cayman Island souvenir :)
