Caution re free valet parking !

Why don't you just pull the parking pass out of the window and take it with you. It's not required to park at a resort so why give them the ability to charge your room? As soon as you pass the gate, yank it out of the window. The valet lot shouldn't need it for anything if you are a member anyway right?

Haven't been on the boards for a while. Surprised to see that the errors are still continuing ! I would think that if this is widespread someone at the resorts would mention that they continuously have to reverse valet charges for guests.

Let's hope they get this fixed quickly. It is annoying to have to wait at check-in to have the charges reversed.

Just saw this thread again and wanted to note that this happened to us in Jan.....some how I would think they would have fixed it by now if they wanted too?:confused3

I understand that taking the parking pass would help but....I hope rather that they stop making the mistakes and improve the system

For the life of me I can't find or remember where the article I read is located.

In that article it was mentioned that the quality of Disney World guest services is on the decline.

Just posting to bump the thread up. Appears that this is still happening. See thread "Just back from Grandstand SSR - 99% perfect! " (sorry don't know how to link)

Just want to remind everyone to check their bills closely...and to complain in some formal manner so that this is addressed.

QUESTION - I am a newbie, I just bought into AKV in May. We will be staying at Contemporary in October (not on points). Can I use the free valet by showing my card when I check in, or can you only use that perk when you are staying dvc? Also do you still tip them?

If parking is outsourced to a private contractor then is sounds like they hope you don't see the bill. They get a per car fee. If it is missed by 30% then that adds up.

I used to work for a major valet parking company. (based in FL) If this is the same company, then I know this is what they are doing.

You can get free parking if you are using the DDE card. That is what I used at the Contemporary the 3 times we were there last week. Too bad they charged used $70 - one time for $30!!! Some of the days listed were days we were not even at the CR! The strange thing is that the CR is the only place that actually asked to see the DDE card and copied my name straight from the card!

We also got charged at the BW and we showed the the DDE card AND the DVC card.

All the charges were reversed but not before I informed SSR that the DDE card entitles people to free parking!!

PS There are a lot of abbreviations in this message!! :rotfl:

We won't be back at WDW until October. This 'glitch', if it is in fact one, should have been worked out by now. I would encourage all to check their bills and then formally complain based on the knowledge that their incident is not an isolated one.

It seems that the CM's are very helpful in correcting the mistakes and I think that it's important that we don't take out or frustration on them. Certainly we could ask them to bring up the point if they have to reverse many charges, but it still falls to us to complain. Earlier this year I was prepared to chalk it up to growing pains in the 'contracting out' process. I don't think that conclusion is valid anymore.

Just happened to me in June at BCV...

What REALLY frustrated me is that I had a room balance ran during the middle of the week... I went to the conceirge, got the credit for the charge, and asked her to put a stop on it so I wouldn't have it when I leave...

I got the balance again the night before, and there was another $40... It amazes me that they haven't addressed this yet.

When did this start? We were there in January & even valet free at AK. So far we've never had a problem.

We're heading down next week... will be interested to see what happens. Just an FYI, and maybe those of you using the DDE card have been doing this all along (I was not aware of this requirement) - according to the sheet of info that just arrived yesterday (with my DDE card):

It says when dining at a WDW resort that valet parking is complimentary, but "presenting a dining receipt at the Valet Stand upon retrieving your vehicle(s) is required."

I don't know if that's new... if so, maybe this is part of the problem, at least as far as the problems with those using the DDE card.

Whatever the cause, I'll be sure to keep track of my charges.

That isn't new. I always present the receipt, but they rarely look at it. I've never been charged for valet, though.

When did they change to outsourcing for valet parking? Does that include the bell services too? I sure hope not! We have had excellent service from the crew at the BC.

Not only that, but some of the reports I've read had the charges appearing for people who were DVC members from DVC resorts. It isn't just a DDE issue.

see my thoughts about this in My Recent Trip thread. I do think the guys going to out to the cars truly do not care if the charge you, in hopes you don't notice it.

First off, I know it isn't our responsibility to narrow down where the system is breaking down....complaints should have seen this resolved...but they haven't.

I don't know much about how the business case is set up for this but maybe someone of you will have insight....

Does the valet company earn their money by the actual number of services provided or do they just get a fee for providing the overall service? Do they collect the cash directly and from room charges? Obviously they are hooked into the Disney billing system as our rooms do get charged. The fact that DVC members get a 'perk' shouldn't really cause the valet company to lose the revenue. They didn't decide to give the perk. Is Disney not reimburseing them for our 'perk'?

Maybe I'm overthinking this. I don't know. Does someone know how our 'perks' are paid for? They are discounts for services that are not provided by DVC. Does DVC negotiate them based on the increased business the DVC'rs will bring? Don't know if this would necessarily be such a strong incentive for the valet company.

Just thinking....I hate to think that we are being charged just because most members won't notice the charge.

Still hoping that the CM's who constantly have to reverse the charges will speak up. I certainly will ask to speak to a manager at SSR in October if it happens again. I know it isn't their fault but maybe they can direct my concerns better.
