Okay - I'm researching digital cameras, since I broke our Kodak Advantix camera last week, but that's another story. I'm seeing that the ones I am interested in getting are hooked up to the computer via USB. My question is, and forgive me if I'm thinking too much or being stupid, if you already have a piece of equipment (I have my printer/scanner/copier) hooked up via USB, do you have to unplug that device every time you want to upload your digital cam pics to your PC? Or is there a way to route/re-route.... ugh I really am thinking too hard. Please help!
Thanks in advance for putting up with another digital cam question... I'm sure you are past being tired of answering them!;)

You can buy (at a computer store, or even possibly Target or an office store) a thingie called a USB "Hub" that lets you hook up more than one device to a single usb port on your computer. All the devices (should) work at the same time, there is no need to switch them like in the olden days. I think I've seen 4 port hubs for around 30 bucks.

mrsapalm-I have a hp computer. I have my printer connected to the printer port with a big black screw in type cable. I had to buy it seperately[at Ciurcut City]. Also I have 2 USB ports.

That said.
I just bought at Wal-mart the New hp photosmart kit with a 320 2.1mp camera and a printer it is a hp 3420v, it is a little smaller than a Canon 2400 printer.

This is what the cheat sheet Wal-mart gave me says

HP 320 Digital Camera/Printer Kit

No computer required to print pic's from camera

1 gray USB Cord-printer to Computer Connection

2 black USB cords found inside Camera box

1=Camera to Computer Connection
1=Camera to Printer Connection

Camera/Printer Basic Directions:
After taking pic's on camera,turn on printer and connect USB cable to the camera

A "Print Setup" screen will appear on the Camera's Screen,
scroll through options and set according to your preferances for paper type and size

Select "OK" to print when finished. Complete printing will take a few minutes because of the amount of information being transferred from the camera to the printer.

I like the Camera it is easy to work. When hooked to the computer,you can adjust dark pic's,fix red eye, crop, and a number of other functions. I printed a pic from my Canon printer 8x11 Quality is really good,even shows detailed scroll work on the mirror over my head!!

Durrrrrrr - that's what I was trying so hard to remember in the dark recesses of my mind.... The USB Hub! I knew it was too stupid to have to keep unplugging devices! Okay, minor glitch in mental processing solved - I'll get a hub!
Thanks for the advice - sometimes the smartest people do/say/think the dumbest things. I'm slapping myself on the head right now.:jester: :jester:

Andrea -- another tip -- check EPO for the hub. We have one for my machine and they were *much* better priced at EPO (I think that stands for Electronic Parts Outlet -- I know there's one not far from you, I *think* on Fondren but I don't remember for certain. I just know I used to work 10 minutes from your place and there was an EPO less than 10 minutes from where I used to work. :) )

Good luck!
