Hi,Does anyone have experience with your cat having renal failure? My cat was diagnosed a few weeks ago.I give him fluids everyday under the skin but the last few days he has not eaten and drinks very little.I've tried everything I can think of.You can hear his lips kinda poofing out when he breathes.
Anyone elses cat have this symptom?
I just don't want him to be in distress.
Thanks for any help, suggestions or comments.
Debbie

You really need to take your kitty to the Vet.... NOW! Sadly, I've lost cats to renal failure and, looking back, I waited too long to ease them out of their pain. It's just so hard to say goodbye. :(

Quality v/s Quantity. If the cat has stopped eating and is having trouble breathing, it sounds like it's time.

I will be thinking of you and your kitty. :grouphug:

The poofing breathing does not sound good! I was ready to give suggestions for things to try for eating because I had and kept alive a kitty for 3yrs after it was supposed to have died of renal failure but your baby really sounds like it is in repiratory distress, Is it urinating at all? could you be overloading it with the SQ fluids? I'd call my vet or take her in you can still decide the outcome or bring her home but a medical oppinion is needed.

I did have good luck in getting mine to drink the juice from tuna diluted with a little water, and babyfood is another option. The tuna juice was always a winner.

My baby also liked the whipped cream from the can- I'd squirt some on a plate and she would lick it up.

Good Luck you feel so helpless when they get this sick.

Try Fancy Feast. It's got a powerful aroma and is full of moisture. If that does not lure the cat into eating, I'd have it's time to say take him in to the vet. :(

Thank you for your replies.I know it's time to let him go.He's 14yrs old and this disease is making him feel awful.I have the feeling this will be his last night with us.We'll miss him terribly but I think it's the best thing I can do for him.
Thank you all for your thoughts, suggestions and comments.
