Catfishing isn't limited to romantic relationships.
I mean I guess some of the stories that I have read by people who are probably pretending to be someone they aren't are always very amusing because there is no way its true or it just makes no sense.

I'm totally with you. I'm 100% the real me on these boards (that's what we all say, right)? If you asked me for my address I'd consider giving it to you. I'm not worried about someone stealing my identity because I'm too poor for someone to steal money out of my bank account and I'm so boring that if you did something crazy and pretended it was me, no one who knows me would believe it LOL

I think catfishing only matters if you are going to meet the person in real life or have a relationship of some sort.
Otherwise it's just trolling. Or regular internet b.s..

However I am someone who tends not to trust people even in person.

I'm sure someone has lied to me on the internet. In the falsified identity sense? I don't know.

I totally agree with the bolded. I have to admit though, that I take things on the CB here pretty non-critically. I assume everybody is who they seem to be and their situations are being reasonably accurately portrayed. OTOH, I consider everybody to be more persona that actual person, so even if some of it is fiction, it doesn't matter to me.

I'm actually a unbelievably attractive multi-millionaire and every one of my posts are typed by my maid and/or butler. I used to let the chef do it but his French to English translation was a bit weak so he's only allowed to cook for me now. My maid is typing this message from my summer estate as instructed.

I know of a whopper in the local catfish pond. Catch and release seems to be the theme though.

It does appear that the protection is diminishing with time though. I think it depends on who's actually around to protect the catfish at any given time.

Money fixes everything. I have no need to correct anything. I refuse to conform to the lower standards expected of those on the lower rung of the ladder. Any confusion and/or misunderstanding is certainly due to the reader and their lack of ability to understand my charmed ways.

People will usually come undone at some point OP. Don't be too concerned about it unless they are asking for money.
