Well, has anyone seen it yet?

We just saw it early this afternoon right after the preview of Haunted Mansion...hey what can I say, we're getting ready for our vacation in ONE WEEK!!

Anyway, we loved Haunted Mansion.

We did NOT like Cat in the Hat. Our 7 year old liked them both but wants to buy Haunted Mansion when it comes on video!

Sorry, but it was just not that good.:( I was really looking forward to it too! We were disappointed.

I didn't care for the adult jokes mixed into the movie.

Anyone else see it and have an opinion?

P.s...we loved the Grinch Movie and have seen it a zillion times and can't wait to see the Grinch (and the Cat) in about a week and 1/2!!!

That's disappointing. We really want to see it. Now what do you mean about adult jokes? Will the movie be inappropriate for children?????????    Will the jokes go over their heads?

Thanks for the report out!

The adult jokes should go right over kids heads until about age 11 or 12??

The name of his car for example is called S.L.O.W. which stands for something that I don't recall. He said this name is better than what it used to be called before which was S.H.*.T. which also stood for something. He didn't say the word, he said the words each letter stands for but almost said it. Then there were others along those lines.

It could be just me and my DH's taste but we didn't like it or Mike's portrail of the Cat. I'm so bummed to say this and that I feel this way. I like Mike Myers too.

I can't wait for other's views/opinons.

Ohhhh I was looking froward to this one. Perhaps like in Finding Nemo they just threw in a couple of things for the adults that only we would get?! I wish they would bring out a Ghostbuster Show movie...hey flyfly..what do you think of a Ghostbuster Show Movie? No. 1......;)

What an absolute disappointment.

A wonderful story, a fantastic comedic actor (Myers) and a big budget should have added up to a fantastic film. However, this one fell flat on its face.

I've never been more uncomfortable watching Myers. I really love his work, but he just absolutely failed in this role. It was like a mish mosh of gags and mini-sketches and not even pulled off that well. At one point it became excruitiating to watch.

Too bad. When I first saw the poster (geez it seems like almost a year ago) in the theater and realized Myers was in the title role - I thought just how great this one was going to be.

On the plus side, the effects really were wonderful. And, the sets were all great - especially the "Cat's World" scenes. Too bad, this one could have been great.

You said it perfectly. Although I'm so sad we both feel this way, I'm glad to know it wasn't just me!!!

I am so disappointed because I was SO looking forward to this movie; counting the days actually. Not to mention growing up with the Cat in the Hat book!:(

So even though you adults were disappointed..what about the kids? Mine are nearly 10 and 7.

My 7 year old said she liked it.

I believe kids would think it's funny/cute.

There were some funny moments and the set was amazing!

Bummer...my parents and I were interesting in seeing this...maybe we'll just wait for it to come out on DVD and just rent it...

Selina - a movie with just the Ghostbusters from the show? Mmmmm...I'd buy that...gosh, it would be even worse than my LOTR obsession. I only saw the first LOTR movie 14 or so times...but if these guys were in a movie...I wouldn't even be able to keep track!!! ;) ;)

Do you remember a few years ago they had Star Trek - now not sure if this was at Universal or MGM - but you could act in the show - be a Klingon or something - it would be filmed - then everyone wold watch the mini movie. Wouldn't it be fun if the Ghostbusters did something like that - where members of the audience could join in with them? Can you imagine me and GIO2......it would probably get a rating of 18 and over....hee hee!:p

One of the bad points of the movie is the cameo by Paris Hilton. In the dance scene where the Cat is picking up his hat, he looks up at a girl.....and it's Paris Hilton. Nice person to have in a family movie right now. :crazy2:

OMG LOL Selina!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
That would be pretty cool though! Selina -- I think we need to bring the Virtual Trip to Universal back up!!!!! ;) ;) ;)

Hey, they didn't know that Paris and her sex tape would be circulating at this time. I didn't even know that it was her till just now.

And I thought the movie was cute and silly. There was some adult stuff that would go over the heads of kids. The sets are impressive, and overall I felt it was well done. It didn't blow me away, but I liked it.

She is one of the "Hilton" girls. The daughters of the owner of the Hilton hotel chain. They are known for partying, getting drunk and so forth......

Oh! and thanks for the reply Beatty.......I wouldn't like that either.....just because it IS a family movie.....:(

We just got home from taking the grandkids and I too was very very disappointed. I liked the Grinch movie and had hoped this one would be done as well...NOT

The sets were marvelous and the referral to Universal theme parks was great...but it actually dragged and seemed chopped up at the same time...hard to explain. It seemed like they were trying to stretch to make it movie length and so added stupid things and musical numbers...Like what was the purpose of going to the party scene (that was Paris Hilton???) and even the cupcake scene seemed disconnected....

The grandkids (6 and 7) liked it but also got restless during the movie...a sure sign it is dragging. It would have been nice if the dialog had repeated the rhymes of the story for the kids - to make it like an inside joke for the young Seuss crowd. The adult jokes were forced and unnecessary. I guess they couldn't decide who their audience would be.

Universal should have made it a better movie. And they lost out on a real advertising special - they should have run scenes of UO's Seussland in the background when the credits were running!

I thought Mike Meyers failed as the Cat in the Hat...he started out on the right note, when he first appeared and they hid all over and he surfed down the stairs...but as the movie progressed he seemed to be forcing the role...maybe it was just me!

And I did not like the makeup - it was not my idea of the Cat in the Hat. I am not sure what bothered me, the face seemed smushed...

Sorry...but I didn't like it. Grandkids sort of liked it.

BTW we saw a preview for a new Peter Pan movie and I swear it said it was by Universal???

I saw that preview too. Now that is one thing to wonder about. Universal got the right to do a live-action Peter Pan. Hmm...

Yeah, Universal is making a Peter Pan movie...:) I remember b/c I *think* that preview played "Clocks" by Coldplay and I took special notice (I love that song...lol). I saw the preview in Monster's Cafe.

Coldplay *shudders*

Yes, they use the song Clocks in the preview. It is fitting.
