I heard conflicting reports about this movie. Is this suitable for 12 year olds? Are there lots of sexual references?

My best friend and I took our kids (10, 10 and 7) to see that movie today. There are some sexual (I don't think any of the kids got those though), some cleavage shots from Kelly Preston, and lots of implied cussing (I think the kids got those, especially since some members of the audience helped out on the words). All 3 of the kids loved the movie and laughed throughout it.

We saw this movie Friday night...a packed theater.

We took our 2 5yo and I thought it was OK for them. A lot of the tasteless humor went way over the heads of most kids.

There was not a whole lot of that sort of humor, but there was a little....as to whether I would take a 12 year old or not, I guess it would depend on the 12 yo. Some are quick to catch this sort of thing and some are not.

I haven't seen this yet and until they create a theatre that doesn't have popcorn, I won't be seeing it anytime soon. Too tempting ;)

Just like with Grinch, I have absolutely no desire to see this movie. Never really liked Dr Seuss books. Except for the fact that they can teach kids to read by repetitive words.

Maybe it is just me, but whenever I see the commercial for that movie, just looking at the cat gives me the willies and rubs me the wrong way! I don't think I will be seeing the movie!

I heard one of the best parts of the movie was the little girl, Dakota Fanning. She's the only reason I even want to see the movie...she's pretty talented for her age. :)

But I'll probably wait until it's out on DVD...I heard this one doesn't even live up to the Grinch. :( But, that's some peoples' opinions...maybe I'll end up liking it...who knows...

You can definately wait for the video for this one! It seemed to drag on and on. I really like Mike Meyers but this was almost painful to watch. The special effects are cool but the story was just plain weird.

Saw it this weekend. Absolutely HORRIBLE!!!! I was apalled by the implied curse words, the cat actually was in the middle of saying, " son of a b----" when it beeped the "B"word, the mean boyfriend is shown toting around beer, the initials for the cat's old car spelled out S-H-I-T, which he helped you to think through so anyone that can spell will catch this one. I didn't think any part of this movie was funny or cute. To think that it is geared toward such a young audience, it's a preschool book for crying out loud, and had to get a PG-13 rating, is pathetic. Definitely wish I could have had a warning about this one before I wasted $30 on it!

Hmmm....I have NO desire to see this movie now, even with my free passes. I think DH and I will just go see Russell Crowe's new movie on Thanksgiving Day. I liked the previews when we saw it.

A waste of money if you ask me. I took the kids to see it but I wouldn't go again.

We went on Saturday. Our theater has it rated as PG. I think it should definitely be PG-13.

IMO, the things I didn't like would probably go over the heads of a 5-8 year old, but the 9-13 year old group will definitely get the things that are implied. I think my kids at 10 and 11 1/2 are a bit immature for their age, and they got them. We had a talk about how that wasn't approporiate. Hindsight, I probably should have left the theater, but I didn't.

So no, I didn't like it and I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes Dakota Fanning was cute, but it's not worth the baggage that goes with it.

Also, the cat seemed like he was trying too hard to be a cross between the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz, and Willie Wonka. Got on my nerves BIG TIME!

With a little bit of Austin Powers thrown in the mix too.
