Castaway Cay Theme Park

No problem mon......

No, I don't work for Disney....would like to though....so would a couple of my kids.

Please understand, many are not slamming you..but are just very interested in the discussion as CC is dear to so many of us that have visited this magical place and we would be sad if it were spoiled by too much change from what it is currently.

These thoughts were just ones I had to find a way to extend the short time one has on the island. You really cannot understand how exciting it is to watch the ship pull into the dock early in the morning and how sad it is to watch as the ship pulls away from the island after your short stay.

Have fun with your project. Sounds like one you can really run with.

As part of the "Fantasy" Disney management let me be the first to say congratulations on the idea and presentation....now go and find something better. As "The Donald" would say..."Your Fired!" Naw.... just having some fun.

Thanks for starting this thread and good luck with the presentation. Please let us know how it goes as many would be interested in hearing.

you need to keep ecological issues in mind - I think a vast majority of the island is set aside as some kind of nature preserve (????)

I was told by CM's that at night there is a tremendous problem with nasty swarms of sand flies on the island, and that is one of the constraints on further use, development, or even overnighting by the ships. As for how the CM's on the island tolerate it, I don't know, I didn't talk to any land-based folks about it.

When I dropped off DS at scuttles cover I felt bad that he wasn't in the water. And I understand why for liability purposes the Club and Lab groups don't take the children into the ocean. I saw another poster mention another cruise line putting something in. I think the kids need something, wet in which to cool down, and Disney certainly can keep whatever they might build from looking like a piece of plastic dropped onto a deserted island. Signing DS up to participate in a few safely designed and supervised water "rides" or elements for $10 or $15 or $20 for the day might allow him some water time and allow me to go to the serenity bay side of the island, which I have walked down to and checked out once but never really used it yet. And the point of Atlantis having slides and such despite being at the beach is well taken.

By the way--nice school pride, "crappy southern liberal arts college"...LOL, talk that way in front of the Dean?

Absolutely not!! The idea of Castaway Cay is that it's a deserted tropical island paradise, not a theme park or a hotel. If I want those things, I'll stay at WDW.

My sentiments exactly!

I think that a lazy river, some waterslides, and some hot tubs for the adult area would be a good addition. I also think that the teens should get a beach. The only thing that they have now is a beach that everyone else uses and a volleyball net. A pool would also be nice, because my family and I don't like the sand at the beach because it reflects too much light and makes it some times hard to see. I love CC!! :Pinkbounc

We went on a kayaking excursion to the other "side" of the island, almost as far away from the ship as you can get (at least it felt that way), and noted that the ship was visible from there at all times, even on the water with the island between us and the ship. There isn't much vertical elevation on the island and anything you build is pretty visible from anywhere else, unless you screen it with tall trees. One hurricane is all it would take to destroy the vegetation (and probably the water park too). The island has already taken three direct hits from hurricanes since Disney started using it.

I liked feeling miles and miles away from anywhere, loved looking for the starfish, live sand dollars, conchs, shells and fish, liked the absence of man-made stuff, and if given the opportunity, would have stayed there the entire time, away from the shops hammocks, beach chairs, and umbrellas. Alas, we had to return to "civilization" far too soon.
