Hi everyone!

I'm a student at the College of Charleston. I was wondering if you could help me with some opinions.

For a class project, we're proposing the addition of a mini-theme park on Castaway Cay. It would be for Disney cruisers only (of course). and would be small enough so that it would not impede on the secluded feeling you have while on the beaches.

Would you be interested in such a thing?

and

How much would you be willing to pay for admission?

The details of the park have not been discussed as this is just a proposal to see if the company should even consider it.

Update:
The "park" would be a water park...a mini-Typhoon Lagoon.

Update 2:
Anyway, I've taken all of the responses so far and proposed some changes to my team...so now I'm thinking...a small (and I mean SMALL) water park on the unused side of Disney...far enough away to be out of the sensitivities of those on the "secluded" kick...and built in such a way to look like an oasis that is thankfully found by shipwrecked people (think waterfalls and lots of rocks/grass/landscaping...no cement or anything man-made in appearance.

I wouldn't want it during a cruise because you don't get enough time on the island to begin with. I wouldn't want to spend time in a Theme Park. A better idea would be to put a hotel on the island.

How long do you get on the island? Just a day?

And mind you, the "theme park" would be more like a small carnival, in grand Disney fashion...something for the kiddies.

We discussed a resort...but then transportation issues came up...changing the itineraries for the few passengers that wanted to stay on the island or providing separate transportation from the landing strip there...or a nearby point...Sandy Point maybe...but that all got too complicated. haha

You only get 7 hours at the most on the island.

What is Scuttles Cove? Is that like a playground/park?

You can see how much I know about Castaway Cay...NADA! haha

I really appreciate all this input/info/ help!! :sunny:

Castaway Cay is perfect just the way it is.....but I would LOVE it if Disney bought another island and just build a resort complete with pixie dust. Nothing but beach, food, beach. sleep!!

Absolutely not!! The idea of Castaway Cay is that it's a deserted tropical island paradise, not a theme park or a hotel. If I want those things, I'll stay at WDW.

If the "rides" were water based, that might be interesting. Cool slides, swim with sharks, etc.

One of my team members mentioned a water park. Especially since we read that it was really hot there.

So what if the "park" were a small water park? With maybe a Mickey-shaped pool...wave pool maybe? Typhoon Lagoon's little baby sister? haha

This is just a class project, let's not get our 'ears' in a twist.

I think a theme park, more specifically a water park, would be a great addition to Castaway Cay, especially for the children. Water slides, splash pools, a pirate ship with water cannons and such.
If it is for Disney cruisers only, then admission should be included with your cruise. Or a $10-$15 admission fee max. And it would make room for additional lounge chairs. Just no hammocks. There are already far too many adults that act like children when it comes to those.

Thanks for the idea, DVC lady! I didn't even think of that (getting a dvd from them). Does it take long for it to show up? Another classmate is doing the research for Disney and stuff (the history of their expansion, what they have already, etc.), but I could get it for her.

I'm supposed to find out about the Bahamian government as well and their cooperation with foreign expansions. Since Disney owns the island, my work is easy. :) Hence the addition of this sort of "market research".

We are in the beginning stages of this project...still doing research and finding ideas.

I don't know what kind of class this is.

A waterpark would be cool, but if this is operations management - how will you power the wave pool. CC is a island with very limited power generation capabilities - I believe power is pulled from the ship.

(Fifteen years ago I took a class titled "The Art of Walt Disney." We had to design an attraction. I designed a trip through space to be put in Epcot. Disney did it better.)

I don't think I would pay extra for it (my son may have other ideas though), but it is a neat idea. But it could possibly considered an "excursion" and people could sign up (possibly for a fee if that's what you want) have a limited amount of people allowed in at a time to cut down on lines, sign up 90 days out, etc.

NO, NO, NO and NO. I definitely would not want any type of park - water, theme, whatever - on CC. It would ruin the 'deserted island' feel & with the cost of DCL already being higher, the draw of CC would be gone for me & I doubt if I'd want to go anymore.

The best thing about CC - & what I always plug to those that have not cruised DCL before - is the non-commercialized island that they offer.

I think the idea of a small water park would be great if it catered to the little ones as well. I wouldn't want a full fledged Disney World there, but a small water park with pools and fountains for the kids would be nice. DD is 2 and a lot of the other things are still too big for her. Also, wouldn't want to pay anything extra. Should be part of the fare.

To answer one question, Scuttle's Cove is the Oceaneer's Lab and Club space on the island where kids can be left with the counselors if the parents want to go to the adult beach or have some kids free time. They have activities but do not go to the beach.

When we were there, we didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm when all aboard is. By the time you take out 30 min to an hour for lunch and probably another 30 minutes to an hour getting places and back, you only have about 5 hours for activities.

I see the real problem as building something big enough to satisfy those who paid to use it without ruining the island for those of us who love it the way it is. Besides, who wants a wave pool when you have the real thing?

My vote is "no way Jose". If we want to go to a Typhoon Lagoon like place, we'll go before the cruise.

Castaway Cay is for relaxing in paradise.

I also think any kind of "amusement" park is a bad idea for CC. But since it is a class project, I vote for a water park with free admission.
