Call me a paranoid nut, but with all the flu germs going around, I really don't want to use the snorkel gear provided by Disney on Castaway Cay. While in my head I know that Disney probably does an excellent job of disinfecting the mouthpieces and masks, my gut just tells me not to risk it.

My question is this, can we bring our own snorkel gear to CC and snorkel for free, or do we still need to pay for the right to enter that area?

I appreciate any insight you can give me. Thanks!:D:

You sure can bring your own gear. There are snorkel life jackets at the life guard posts for everyone to use and like the food, they are free.

Enjoy yourself, CC is a very nice getaway.

You can bring your own gear. We bring our own snorkels and masks and just rent the fins ($9 I think). The life vests are mandatory but they are free.

We used the fins in the snorkeling lagoon but when we went over to serenity bay after lunch we didn't bother with them (already turned them in) and had a great time there as well.

I bring my own snorkel gear including fins and get their vest. There is no charge for the snorkel area. I was less concerned about germs than I was about fit and cost. My DD had fins that cut into her feet on one cruise (and she didn't say anything!!!) I bought gear for about $50 per person (on sale), so that would be 2 rentals....

Dive shops in KY in the middle of winter don't do much business...and after Christmas was a great time to get decent quality stuff for a rather low price.

I was just at Castaway Cay and went on the snorkeling excersion. I brought my own mask and snorkel for the very reason that you mention. I was dissappointed in the snorkeling excersion because the water was so rough that we did not see any fish on the reef. However my wife and BIL say alot of fish at the adult beach area and even had 2 stingray swim with them. So, I paid to go out into the reef area and saw nothing and they paid nothing and saw all of the fish.
BUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all your quick replies. Now I'm really looking forward to CC!
