Castaway Cay Cat (Health, sightings, etc.)

The cat to me is the mascot of the island just like Shadow is the mascot of Hilton Head. I love all animals and there is nothing wrong with being concerned about them.

I'm glad! In all seriousness, I WAS worried about the cat. I love cats, and the thought that he/she could have been severely hurt or worse bothered me. It's not that I didn't care about whether CC was damaged or not, but people and animals matter more to me.

I think I mentioned this on the other thread (you know, the one that's "not about the cat"?) ....

We now care for two alley cats who have taken up at our place. One came to us pregnant loaded with 7(!) kittens. Two different vets told us at the time she was over 10 years old. Now two+ years later, she is spayed, fat, and happy. She is a *very* resourceful kitty and has survived this long without human intervention. But if a thunderstorm pops up, I worry if she and our other alley cat aren't safely inside our back porch. She clearly doesn't need my help protecting herself, but she's getting it anyway!! lol

Casey is indeed safe, we saw him twice yesterday! Once catching the rays on the path looking like he owns the place :cool2: and once looking very content being stroked by a family with young girls. This was near the Pelican Plunge tram stop on the path to the Sand Bar and beach.
We also discussed him with Ray (current CD) at the Officer Pin Trading - he was very pleased to hear Casey was OK as he hadn't personally seen him for a year and was amused to hear that that cat's safety was being discussed on here!!

I find this whole thing regarding the cat very funny... in a good way! People complaining about not going to CC to see a cat so no one should be concerned? Really? ... because last winter I spent thousands and thousands of dollars to see a giant mouse, a talking dog and a duck with no pants. I think the cat deserves our concern as much as they do :)

THat's so awesome! I love it.

My family and I are sailing on Oct 6th. I think I'll bring casey a gift. I wonder what he/she would like? Too band I can't include him in on our FE gifts,,,,,

:cat: I heart Casey!

Here it is! A thread that everyone who loves this cat can post to their hearts content about it's safety, sightings, & everything else related to the cat. I started it because all the other threads regarding CC since the hurricane have turned into threads about the cat & not about CC. I can understand feelings on both sides of the issue so why not keep comments about the well being of the cat within this thread & comments about CC stay on those threads! :woohoo: Hope you all enjoy!

I thought about making a thread about Casey myself. Thanks for doing so. I am so glad to hear that Casey is doing well!!!!! My Mom thought I was going to book a cruise back to CC just to make sure that Casey was ok, since I've been checking the board since the storm and haven't stopped worrying about Casey all this time. Glad to hear CC, Casey, CM's and crews are all doing good :)

Great idea for a thread. I'm not really a "cat person" but somehow we have two strays that also get fed very well, and annual vet visits.

Casey is very cool - glad to hear he is OK. :thumbsup2

Catnip! Really don't know if you can take it?
Bet he or she would probably love it!

Heaven forbid people care about a living, breathing creature and not just some trees and buildings. :confused3
Obviously people do care about the cat (I care about the cat) but that was not what those other threads were about and some of us were getting frustrated that it was turning into the "all cat, all the time channel". :happytv:

Now we have an all cat thread. :dance3: Thank you OP for starting it, wish I would have thought of it myself. ;)

And to keep on topic... Do you think the CM's give Casey food or do you think he/she lives on lizards and mice?

I've seen Casey on my last two cruises and am glad to hear that he/she is ok :) A CM on my first cruise where I encountered Casey told me that the cat was brought over from Nassau by some of the workers that do the excursions and just dumped it there. It seems that the CM's that live on the island do take care of Casey. I would have to imagine that they would (give her vaccinations, etc) because otherwise a cat would pose too much of a potential risk should it suddenly decide it wanted to bite someone for petting it the wrong way.

I worked with cats for 12 years (and have my own) and can tell that Casey seems to be older, and at times appears agitated when people seem to pet her the "wrong" way (too rough, too much, "against" the hair grain :scared1:), etc. You'll notice her start to wag her tail. I'm honestly sort of shocked that she's never turned around and swatted at someone or nipped.

LOL, long time cat owner here... can pretty much guarantee that with THAT many people around, especially kids, that she probably HAS turned around and swatted at or nipped somebody! She's a cat, and that's what cats do!

Your welcome :thumbsup2, I figured Casey should have it's own thread since he or she was getting so much attention in the others :)

Conversation overheard while going through security line:

TSA: "What's this in the baggie?"

Traveler: "Honest, officer, it's CATNIP!"

TSA: "Oh, yeah? Where's your cat?"

Traveler: "It's for Casey the cat - he lives on Disney's island in the Caribbean. It's a gift for the kitty"

TSA: "Come with me, please"

:rotfl2: Least there is a thread or two if you count the "CC is it ok now" on here to back the story up!

Floridian's not flying could try!
This look's harmless doesn't it?

Casey? Why isn't his/her name "Castaway" or even better "Cay" (how many little kids have we all heard called a "kitty" "key"??)

I vote for a name change. ;)

Is this the cat we're talking about? This was from April 2010:
